Job Description


This position is located in Phoenix, AZ at the 161st ARW National Guard Base, Mission Support Group, Security Forces Squadron. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the subject matter expert in managing the SF Squadron program to include Air Expeditionary Force (AEF) deployments, formal training programs, readiness and emergency management and daily SF operational knowledge.  Provides guidance and recommendations to the squadron commander on all aspects of SF programs for military personnel management, budget and management analysis, training, and training resources for drill-status personnel.


APPOINTMENT FACTORS :This position is the Federal/Excepted Civil Service and is open to current members of the Arizona Air National Guard. Individual selected will receive an Indefinite Appointment

and may be converted to permanent based on availability of funds or position no longer being encumbered 


Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard and must possess the following AFSC : 3P0X1

Max Military Grade: E7


NOTE: Must hold a SECRET Security Clearance

NOTE: This position is subject to rotating shifts

Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (BONUS). Individual selected will be required to take a pre-employment medical screening which will be paid for by the Agency.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funds are not available for this position.

QUALIFICATION: Security Specialist (Training Specialist) GS-0080-09, E5-E7

Specialized Experience: To qualify for the National Guard Dual Status Series 0080, GS-09, the incumbent must have at least 24-months experience, education, or training in planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling installation and law enforcement activities. The incumbent must have experience providing training in areas related to this position and analyzing reports of investigations and maintaining security records. Must be able to enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.


1.       Knowledge of security and security forces requirements, procedures, and tactics to support installation physical security.

2.       Knowledge of firearms and tactics for employing them in emergency situations.

3.       Knowledge of principles and techniques of the flight-level training program.

4.       Knowledge of commonly used methods, procedures regulations and other guides that relate to training programs within the United States AF, ANG and SF career field.

5.       Knowledge of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.

6.       Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
