Job Description


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Develops plans, procedures, goals and objectives in support of the Aerospace Medicine and Force Health Management Programs using an extensive knowledge of Department of Defense (DOD), Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA), United States Air Force (USAF) and Air National Guard (ANG) directives, policies and standards. Implements and maintains the information management systems utilized for aerospace medicine and force health protection programs. Administers the Physical Examinations and Standards (PES) program and serves as a medical expert on related issues. Manages the Reserve Component Periodic Health Assessment (RCPHA) program. Acts as the Medical Group customer service expert. Monitors the medical status of military personnel. Identifies and profiles personnel with medical conditions impacting duty performance or assignment restriction. Determines the need for and initiates Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) actions for duty related medical conditions. Determines the need for and initiates worldwide duty evaluations for non-duty related actions. Administers policies and develops procedures for the flight medicine and grounding management programs, which directly affect flying safety and mission readiness. Manages administrative and automated orders system. Provides prescreening for medical/dental/mental health and evaluation of personnel eligibility for deployment. Performs quality assurance studies on medical issues such as: patient satisfaction surveys, review of medical records for content and structure, reviews laboratory results for validity and application, and generates readiness reports for commander review. Administers the medical records program and acts as the medical records custodian. Must possess a working knowledge of other DOD component medical requirements. Performs additional duties as assigned.





: Selected candidate is required to be assigned to a compatible military unit and MOS/AFSC in accordance with TPR 303. MOS: 4A0X1, 4N0X1

Meeting the months of experience requirement will not by itself be accepted as proof of qualification. Quality, type, and scope of experience or education must be demonstrated to show that applicant is fully qualified to perform duties at the grade level announced.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Experience, education, or training which provided a basic knowledge of principles and practices related to the health care delivery system.

REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience, education, or training which provided a working knowledge of missions, organizations, programs and requirements of health care delivery systems.  Experience analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems.  Experience developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in the state medical programs.  Experience involving various administrative areas such as budget, personnel and public relations within a medical activity.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Resume must reflect applicable experience.

Knowledge of the mission, organization, requirements and procedures of military medicine to provide guidance and assistance on multiple policies and quality assurance relating to health care programs.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. 

Knowledge of physical examination techniques to include taking and recording blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, routine visual acuity testing, interpretation of hearing tests and other related techniques.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. 

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelors degree with courses related to the occupation for GS-5 positions.  Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a masters degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements.  Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS.  Specific requirements are found in: references listed below, NGB Compatibility tables and your local Personnel section.

For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS - For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
