Duties

MILITARY GRADE REQUIREMENT: Enlisted, Not to Exceed TSgt/E-6

NOMINATING OFFICIAL: SMSgt Geoffrey Meyer, Fabrication Supervisor

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an Excepted (Dual Status Military Technician) position that requires active membership in a compatible skill in the Arkansas Air National Guard. Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard and be assigned to the 189th AW in a compatible military position in Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) 2A6X1 Must become compatible in the AFSC within 12 months of appointment. Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Selectee may be subject to uncommon duties, rotational shift assignments and overtime duties. Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.

SPECIALIZED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have 18 months of the following:

Experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories.

Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft.

Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis.

PLACEMENT FACTORS: Applicants should demonstrate through prior experience, education and training the following: (1) Knowledge of the turboprop engine and propeller systems of the C-130, to include knowledge of mechanical, hydro mechanics, electrical, electronic, and pneudraulic principles applying to turboprop engines and propellers. (2) Ability to repair jet engine modules and components in accordance with technical orders and manuals, manufacturers specifications, and other related technical guidance. (3) Ability to conduct tests on repaired turboprop jet engines and components using turboprop jet engine test stand and related test equipment. (4) Ability to perform engine leak test and turboprop jet engine trims and adjustments. (5) Ability to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on turboprop jet engines. (6) Ability to use computer systems to test/troubleshoot turboprop jet engines, take necessary man-hours and data collection, and order parts and equipment. (7) Knowledge of the proper use and care of tools and equipment. (8) Completion of appropriate technical school/CDC courses.

DUTIES: The selectee removes, installs, inspects, modifies, overhauls, and installs turboprop engines, reduction gear boxes, turbine modules, compressor modules, auxiliary power units, gas turbine compressors, propellers and related propeller components as required. Performs maintenance on all propulsion systems including troubleshooting and diagnosing defects, inspecting, conducting bench checks, and performing in-shop and on-equipment repairs and overhauls. Modifies engines, propellers, auxiliary power units, gas turbine compressors, and components in accordance with Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO) directives; removes and installs quick engine change kits; prepares engines for installation and installs engine and propeller assemblies on aircraft. Advises on technical problems of repair, overhaul, modification and installation of aircraft propulsion systems. Performs operational checks of installed propellers, engines, auxiliary power units, gas turbine compressors, and sub-systems during aircraft maintenance ground runs in accordance with approved checklists. Employs test equipment such as computer bore scope, fuel gauges, air gauges and alignment fixtures. Performs isochronal and special inspections on engines, propellers, gas turbine compressors, and auxiliary power units. Interprets inspection findings and determines adequacy of corrective action. Performs aircraft full power runs and complete engine and propeller efficiency checks. Prepares man-hour data collection and required forms for input into the Maintenance Information System. Reviews and assists in maintaining Technical Orders (TOs) and other technical publications and directives pertinent to the section. Maintains bench stock, materials, parts, and equipment. Provides on the job training for assigned personnel. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Information

This position with the Arkansas National Guard is a Title 32 USC 709 position, not Title 5, and as such has different Reduction-In-Force (RIF) criteria, certain grade and promotion limitations, and no Veterans Preference.  Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer of Civilian Pay is required as a condition of employment/promotion/reassignment.  Initial in-processing of new employees will include enrollment procedures.  Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is not authorized.
