Job Description

Duties

The purpose of the position is to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Air traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS). This includes performing investigation, analysis, diagnosis, testing, tuning, correction, optimization, alignment, and verification/certification to ensure continuous and reliable operation of air traffic control and landing and communication systems. Maintains and certifies two or more of the assigned systems and sub-systems to ensure compliance with USAF and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established standards and safety requirements. Participates in the installation, modification, and final testing of all newly installed ATCALS and weather equipment. Collaborates with FAA flight inspection personnel regarding in-flight and/or ground check tolerances and makes on-the-spot determinations as to what actions to take to return system(s) to operable condition. Uses sophisticated stand-alone test equipment and built-in-test-equipment (BITE) to investigate, test, calibrate, analyze, isolate, and correct malfunctions in integrated systems or subsystems. Diagnoses cause of equipment degradation and malfunctions through application of electronic theory, system analysis, use of test equipment, schematics, wiring diagrams, and mathematical analysis. Provides technical guidance, training, and assistance to other technicians and conducts on-the-job (OJT) training to apprentices in all phases of work. Conducts and documents OJT in all phases of equipment maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

GS-11 Specialized Experience:  Must possess 36 months of specialized experience which demonstrates your ability to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS). The specialized experience must also include performing investigation, analysis, diagnosis, testing, tuning, correction, optimization, alignment, and verification/certification to ensure continuous and reliable operation of air traffic control and landing and communications systems. The specialized experience must have included a full range of troubleshooting procedures and techniques on electronic equipment; using all types of electronic test and measurement instruments; integrating various circuits into manageable operational form; and working from rough sketches, block diagrams, and other types of schematic diagrams.

GS-10 Specialized Experience:  Must possess 30 months of specialized experience which demonstrates your ability to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS). The specialized experience must also include performing investigation, analysis, diagnosis, testing, tuning, correction, optimization, alignment, and verification/certification to ensure continuous and reliable operation of air traffic control and landing and communications systems. The specialized experience must have included a full range of troubleshooting procedures and techniques on electronic equipment; using all types of electronic test and measurement instruments; integrating various circuits into manageable operational form; and working from rough sketches, block diagrams, and other types of schematic diagrams.

GS-09 Specialized Experience:  Must possess 24 months of specialized experience which demonstrates your ability to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS). The specialized experience must also include performing investigation, analysis, diagnosis, testing, tuning, correction, optimization, alignment, and verification/certification to ensure continuous and reliable operation of air traffic control and landing and communications systems. The specialized experience must have included a full range of troubleshooting procedures and techniques on electronic equipment; using all types of electronic test and measurement instruments; integrating various circuits into manageable operational form; and working from rough sketches, block diagrams, and other types of schematic diagrams.

General Experience:  Must possess experience, education or training performing simple mechanical installations and adjustments; experience which demonstrates your ability to recognize obvious malfunctions; use common hand tools; and follow written instructions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
