Job Description


Major Duties and Responsibilities: Performs the full range of WG-2610-13 duties and responsibilities. Possesses the knowledge and skills found at the journey level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing, and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program.  Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s). Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimates manpower, equipment and material requirements. Devises and maintains all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance. Plans, organizes and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision. Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.  May provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position descriptions changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.  Performs other duties as assigned.


GENERAL EXPERIENCE:  Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of electronic theories and practices to identify, isolate and repair malfunctions in one or more complex integrated systems where knowledge of the entire system is necessary to interpret error data and trace back through a number of units of the system to locate deficiencies. Thorough knowledge of principles of digital and analog circuits, electro-mechanical devices, solid state devices, digital techniques, synchro/servo operation and integrated circuit theory. Ability to interpret and trace schematics, logic and wiring diagrams and use a wide variety of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).  

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic integrated systems equipment.  Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic integrated systems equipment.  Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment.  Experience in using a wide variety of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).   Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.

MILITARY COMPATIBILITY:   Upon selection, individual must be assigned to a compatible military position and must also maintain satisfactory membership in the Minnesota National Guard.

Upon selection, individuals will undergo a background check to validate suitability for employment with the federal government as permitted by law, regulation, Presidential order or other authority. Suitability is dependent upon the particular requirements for security clearance, sensitivity level, and DOD IT network access.  Items checked include, but are not limited to all criminal history record information, employment history, education and fiscal accountability/responsibility.

EVALUATION FACTORS:   Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of appropriate education, experience, training, self-development activities, and special awards. Candidates are considered on the basis of available information on their current application and supporting information that has been provided to this office. National Guard military (Part-time) service is considered as full-time experience when evaluated against the qualification requirements for a technician position. The applicant is credited with actual number of months the member has been in the National Guard if the experience is related.

REMARKS: No PCS Available.  This position is also posted as Merit AGR ANG 17-219.  Members with rank higher than identified in Key Requirements are eligible to apply, but may be required to take a reduction should they be selected. The military grade of the supervisor must equal or exceed the grade of personnel supervised.  Selected applicants start date is contingent upon current incumbents retirement. 


Acceptance of a Technician position will result in the termination of your Selected Reserve bonus.
