Job Description


Applications will be accepted from those who are CURRENTLY ENROLLED or ACCEPTED FOR ENROLLMENT in a qualifying AIRFRAME AND POWERPLANT(A&P) PROGRAM recognized by TINKER AFB. Applicants who are currently enrolled in other A&P programs may apply and receive consideration; however, the curriculum must be substantially similar to local vocational programs with which Tinker AFB has an agreement. 



At the time of application, Student Interns are required to have completed TWO-THIRDS of a qualifying A&P Program, i.e., BLOCK 1 ("GENERAL PORTION") and BLOCK 2 (AIRFRAME OR POWERPLANT).  NOTE: Students who have not completed two full blocks may also apply, but MUST complete the second block prior to selection

All certificates and final transcripts will be required at the time of selection.

Job requirements as a Student Intern:

·        Sign a Participant Agreement

·        Attend school while working at Tinker AFB

·        Work part-time only, while in the A&P program

·        Commute daily to work at Tinker AFB

·        Complete 640 hours of OJT while attending school 

To be eligible for conversion, Student Interns must:

·        Complete 640 hours of work experience (On-The-Job Training) acquired through the Internship Program

·        Complete certificate/licensing requirements by obtaining A&P License

·        Meet qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted

·        Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the signed Participants Agreement

·        Demonstrate successful job performance


NOTE:  Appointments for this program are made at the WG-03 level ($15.86-$18.48 hourly).  Upon successful completion of 640 hours of On-the-Job (OJT) and all other program requirements, incumbents can be promoted to the WG-05 level ($17.76 $20.74 hourly).  The target grade (full performance level) depends on the position occupied.



You must provide the following documents at the time of application to receive consideration for the Pathways Internship Program.  



1.) A completed questionnaire (if you are not able to complete the application online, refer to the How to Apply section for instructions for application via FAX).

2.) A detailed résumé containing your full employment history, i.e. employer, dates worked (inclusive months and years, and hours worked per week) etc.

3.) Current proof of enrollment letter for the A&P program.  This MUST be an official letter from your school, on school letterhead.  The letter must state that you are either currently enrolled, or have been accepted for enrollment in either a half-time or full time program.   If you do not provide this document, you will not receive consideration of eligibility.

4.) Program transcripts; copies of unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application; however, you will be required to provide your final official transcripts at the time of selection.

5.) Certificates of completion for 2 of the 3 blocks of the A&P program.

6.) Veterans preference document/s; a copy of your DD-214 (copy showing type of discharge) and, if applicable for veterans claiming 10-pt preference; a current VA letter and SF-15.  If you do not provide this documentation, you may not receive full consideration of your Veterans preference.

It is your responsibility to provide the appropriate documents needed to determine your eligibility and/or qualifications for this announcement.   DO NOT provide letters of appreciation, copies of performance appraisals, position descriptions, etc. as they will not be used to determine qualifications.  

Other Significant Facts:

1.) This is a drug testing designated position.   The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

2.) Appointment is contingent upon passing a physical examination.

3.) Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain appropriate background investigation or security clearance.

4.) May be required to drive a motor vehicle.  A valid drivers license may be required for the position. 

5.) Incumbent will be required to sign a Participant Agreement that details the program requirements and expectations of the incumbent and organization.

6.) Shift work and emergency overtime may be required.

Physical Demands: The demands of each position vary but incumbents may perform heaving lifting (45-74 lbs or more) and heavy carrying (45 lbs or more).  Reaching above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands required; moderate walking, crawling and kneeling; prolonged standing, repeated bending and climbing; use of legs and arms; both legs required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted); no claustrophobia.

Working Environment: Works in hangers and flight lines. Subject to drafts, noise, and varying temperatures in hangers and weather temperature, and noise extremes on flight line. Exposed to dust, dirt grease, oil, fumes, solvent, and other aircraft fluids while working on aircraft in varies stages of repair or modification. Exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns , electrical shock, skin and eye irritation and falls from elevated work areas, e.g., work stands and aircraft structures.

There is no U. S. citizenship requirement to participate in the Pathways Programs; HOWEVER, U. S. citizenship is a requirement for conversion to the competitive service via a term or permanent appointment.

**Non-U.S. citizens may apply to the Pathways Internship Program as current students or recent graduates and be employed, however, the student must have been lawfully admitted into the United States as a permanent resident or otherwise authorized to be employed in the Pathways Internship Program. 

NOTE: A non-citizen student may not be converted to career-conditional employment in the competitive service unless they are U.S. citizens at the time of conversion. Additionally, applicants must be a U.S. citizen for positions that require security clearances.

Priority Placement/Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) applicants who have special priority placement rights must be well qualified for the position. Well qualified, for this position, is defined as meeting the minimum qualifications of the position.  In addition, ICTAP applicants must submit required documents to determine eligibility in accordance with 5 CFR 330.704.  Some of these documents include a copy of the agency notice, most recent performance appraisal, and most recent SF50.
