Job Description

Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:  Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the technician and lower graded mechanic(s). Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures. Estimates time, equipment and material requirements. Devises and maintains plans and records. May provide recommendations and input to supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, and leave.

Performs the full range of shop work.

Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.

Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. 

Qualifications

BASIC ELIGIBILITY FACTORS :  

Document prior experience, education, and training relating to the General and Specialized Experience requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY (KSAs) are no longer basic eligibility factors, but will be used as rating and ranking factors.

 

KSAs

1. Ability to assign work of subordinates.
2. Skill in Planning, Scheduling, and Organizing.
3. Skill in reading and interpreting layout drawing and schematic diagrams.
4. Skill in reading/interpreting technical manuals.
5. Skill in Aircraft Fuels Systems maintenance.
6. Skill in maintaining record/reports. 

 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must posses experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must posses 18 months of specialized experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies. Experience in repairing, rebuilding and overhauling major systems of ground equipment and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Experience in mechanicl repairs using hand tools and test equipment. Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications.

Substitution of Education of Specialized Experience:

Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience for this position. 

 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYISCIAL: A pre-employment physical examination or medical screening may be required for placement to this position.

DIRECT DEPOSIT PARTICIPATION: Selectee will be required to participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer (DD/EFT) program as a condition of employment.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:  Selectee is subject to attaining and maintaining a security clearance as required by the position.
