Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to accomplish the inspection, repair, modification, installation and troubleshooting of sheet metal, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb and other structural materials and components as well as treatment (i.e., mechanical and chemical), and painting of missiles, aircraft powered and nonpowered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE), and monitoring aircraft and equipment washing.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training that has provided you with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double, or grooved seams.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for WG-10:  Must have at least 18 months experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams;  Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment;  Experience in using metals, including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys;  Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments.

Specialized Experience: (WG-08):  Must have at least 12 months experience or training planning, manufacturing, and installing cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastening. Experience cutting and forming by using basic hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, squaring shears, seamers, bar folders, breaks, and stakes. Experience assembling parts by seaming, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, spot-welding, or soldering. Experience demonstrating a basic understanding of using measuring instruments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

    -Knowledge of aircraft design and structure as well as testing procedures and prevention of metal corrosion.
    -Skilled in the use of various complicated tools and equipment.
    -Knowledge of metal strength characteristics (annealing, tempering and normalizing) in the selection of the proper materials for repair.
    -Ability to independently inspect aircraft and determine the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guidelines.
    -Ability to repair cracks in aircraft skin, fabricate and fit patches to damaged areas, determine repair detail necessary to retain or restore original strength.  
    -Knowledge and skill to align and balance component structures and airframe using precision measuring instruments and levels.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidates will be required to be in a compatible military grade and assignment prior to the effective date of placement.

Maximum Military Grade Available:  E3 to E6

Selectee(s) must be within the military grade(s) listed in this job announcement prior to the effective date of placement into the technician position.

Applicant(s) who are over grade must clearly state, in their resumes, their intentions to willingly take a reduction in grade.

Compatible Military Assignments:  2A7XX, 2A7X3

(Note:  Applicants without the compatible AFSC must have an ASVAB score of at least 47 in the Mechanical section in order to qualify for retraining).

OTHER PERTINENT DATA This vacancy will be processed in accordance with NHNG TPR 335 & Article 16 of the Labor Management Agreement.  Military compatibility and grade inversion rules will be strictly adhered to. In order to comply with the NGB compatibility criteria, selected individual will be immediately assigned to compatible military assignment

 

THE FILLING OF THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF MANPOWER SPACE.

 

Reimbursement for PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS) expenses IS not authorized.
