Duties

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Performs inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections such as fuel contamination, emergency equipment, and oil sampling. Troubleshoots and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment. May be required to perform user and organizational level maintenance on assigned support equipment, including inspection, repair, modification, and corrosion prevention. Provides data for aircraft maintenance historical records, complete maintenance data collection, man-hour accounting, and other forms as required. Instructs, directs, and assigns maintenance repair tasks to drill status guard members. Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as MEI, ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility and command support exercises. Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY COMPATIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

: Selected candidate is required to be assigned to a compatible military unit and MOS/AFSC in accordance with TPR 303. AFSC: 2A3X3, 2A5X1, 2A5X4, 2A8X1

Meeting the months of experience requirement will not by itself be accepted as proof of qualification. Quality, type, and scope of experience or education must be demonstrated to show that applicant is fully qualified to perform duties at the grade level announced.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications.  Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.  Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Resume must reflect applicable experience.

Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of systems, assemblies, and surfaces.

Skill in the removal, replacement and adjustment of various systems assemblies, and surfaces or any of their components and parts.

Skill in connecting, meshing and adjusting surfaces, assemblies, and systems with one another.

Knowledge and skill to use precision test equipment, technical data, schematics, wiring diagrams, mathematical formulas, common hand tools, jigs, templates, and various gauges.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: None.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements.  Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS.  Specific requirements are found in: references listed below, NGB Compatibility tables and your local Personnel section.

For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS - For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
