SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  The purpose of this position is to design, deploy, install, operate, maintain, modify, and recover various types of communications transmission systems and their components. Incumbent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the mission accomplishment and training workload of the Wideband/Satcom work center.

  • Installs, operates, maintains and repairs communications transmission systems, sub-systems and components.
  • Generates configuration documentation (e.g., cutsheets) for analog/digital signal conditioning equipment and wireless transmission systems.
  • Interprets satellite access authorizations.
  • Tracks, accounts for and coordinates equipment status and location through host base.
  • Develops, establishes and maintains work center training programs.
  • Ensures mobilization readiness of section personnel and equipment.
  • Manages the installation spectrum management (ISM) program for the unit in coordination with National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) and Major Command (MAJCOM) spectrum frequency programs and managers utilizing PC-based software.
  • Performs additional duty assignment as Communications Security (COMSEC) responsible officer for work center and performs other duties as assigned.

a. GENERAL Experience.  Experience, education, or training involving the knowledge of the needs of communications users. Experience using computer and automation systems.

b. SPECIALIZED Experience.  Must have at least 12 months experience, education, or training demonstrating a complex understanding of electronics theory and operating principles. Experience working with applications of existing and planned technology in communications requirements, equipment interoperability and compatibility. Experience involving a combination of specialized communications knowledge and management skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have a minimum of Secret security clearance.

MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected candidate must be assigned to a valid position in the unit of employment, and be assigned militarily in DAFSC 3D1X3.


a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor.

b. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted only after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Hawaii National Guard.

i. This temporary limited appointment may be converted to a non-temporary appointment without further competition.

k. This type of appointment is expected to extend beyond one year.  Separation will be preceded by a 30-day notice when services are no longer needed.  Permanent technicians will remain on permanent status if selected.
