Job Description

Duties

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

  • Removes, installs, certifies, repairs, modifies, overhauls, and installs turboprop engines, reduction gear boxes, turbine modules, compressor modules, auxiliary power units, propellers and related propeller components as required. 
  • Modifies engines, propellers, auxiliary power units, and components in accordance with Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) directives; removes and installs engine quick change kits; prepares engines for installation and installs engine and propeller assemblies on aircraft.
  • Performs operational checks of installed propellers, engines, auxiliary power units and sub-systems during aircraft maintenance ground runs in accordance with approved checklists.
  • Performs isochronal and special evaluations on engines, propellers and auxiliary power units.  Interprets certification findings and determines adequacy of corrective action.
  • Performs aircraft full power runs and complete engine and propeller efficiency checks.
  • Prepares man-hour data collection and required forms for input into the Core Automated Maintenance System (CAMS) or the G081 (AFI 22-2101, CAMS for Mobility).  
  • Maintains bench stock, parts, and equipment.  Assists the material control function in identifying part numbers and stock numbers for processing and controlling of repair cycle assets.
  • Provides on-the-job training for assigned personnel.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Inspections, Inspector General and Unit Evaluation Inspections, mobility, and command support readiness inspections, mobility, and command support exercises.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

General Experience:  Applicant possesses experience that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to perform assembly and dissasembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements.  Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

Specialized Experience WG-05: Applicant must possess 6 months specialized experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.

Specialized Experience WG-08: Applicant must possess 12 months specialized experience or training removing and installing components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making minor repairs and modifications to aircraft engines, subassemblies and components.

 Specialized Experience: WG-10- Applicant must possesses 18 months specialized experience which demonstrates the ability to perform standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories.  Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft.  Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):   Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydromechanics, electrical, electronic, and pneudraulic principles and systems, that apply to turboprop engines and propellers.
  • Skill in the interpretation and use of technical orders and manuals, manufacturers specifications, factory engineering bulletins, flow charts/wiring diagrams and other related technical guidance.
  • Skill in troubleshooting, diagnosing defects, certifying, conducting bench and operational checks, disassembly, repairing, modifying, testing, cleaning, assembly and installation of turboprop engine and propeller systems, sub-systems and components such the integrated synchrophasing system, reduction gear box, torque meter assembly, fuel scheduling system and electrical components and control assemblies.
  • Skill in the use of test equipment such as computer borescopes, fuel gauges, air gauges, and alignment fixtures; special tools and precision measuring equipment; high pressure hydraulic test equipment; dynamic propeller balancing equipment; and engine vibration analyzers.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining the engine test/trim automated system (ETTAS) on the engine test cell to evaluate, identify and correct propeller and engine components causing vibration or impending failure.

National Guard Compatibility:  Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician position, the selectee must be assigned to the 165th Maintenance Squadron in the Georgia Air National Guard as an Enlisted member in AFSC: 2A6X1. Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

Wear of the Air uniform as prescribed by AR/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position.  Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.

Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the governments expense, prior to beginning employment.  Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.

Standard Form 78 (Certificate of Medical Examination) will be used to determine the fitness and eligibility for employment.  Upon review of results, the Human Resources Officer will approve selection, require additional medical information or find selectee medically disqualified for employment and withdraw said offer.
