Duties

Major Duties:

Develops plans, procedures, goals and objectives in support of the Aerospace Medicine and Force Health Management Programs using an extensive knowledge of Department of Defense (DOD), Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA), United States Air Force (USAF) and Air National Guard (ANG) directives, policies and standards. Implements and maintains the information management systems utilized for aerospace medicine and force health protection programs. Administers the Physical Examinations and Standards (PES) program and serves as a medical expert on related issues. Manages the Reserve Component Periodic Health Assessment (RCPHA) program. Acts as the Medical Group customer service expert. Monitors the medical status of military personnel. Determines the need for and initiates Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) actions for duty related medical conditions. Determines the need for and initiates worldwide duty evaluations for non-duty related actions. Administers policies and develops procedures for the flight medicine and grounding management programs, which directly affect flying safety and mission readiness. Manages administrative and automated orders system. Provides prescreening for medical/dental/mental health and evaluation of personnel eligibility for deployment. Performs quality assurance studies on medical issues such as: patient satisfaction surveys, review of medical records for content and structure, reviews laboratory results for validity and application, and generates readiness reports for commander review. Administers the medical records program and acts as the medical records custodian. Must possess a working knowledge of other DOD component medical requirements. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must have at least 18 months of Specialized Experience in each of the following: 

1.  Providing a working knowledge of missions, organizations, programs and requirements of health care delivery systems.

2.  Analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems.  

3.  Developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in the state medical programs.

4.  Various administrative areas such as budget, personnel and public relations within a medical activity.     

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.

Military Requirements:

Military skill set is determined by the designated AFSC requirements.  Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC. 

Specific requirements are found in: references listed below, NGB Compatibility tables and your local Personnel section.

Other Requirements:

For positions requiring the operation for motor vehicle, candidates must have a valid state drivers license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

  11. Per ARNG-HRH Policy Memorandum #10-39, mandatory Full Time Staff (FTS) training is required within a year of hire as a condition of employment in vacancy announcements for both Technician and Active Guard Reserve positions.  Failure of new FTS personnel to complete NGB prescribed courses at PEC within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment to other full time positions or termination of their employment.
