Duties

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position located in the aircraft operations function of an Air Force Reserve KC-135 Squadron and receive developmental training to attain instructor qualification level to perform at full performance level as the sole enlisted aircrew member. Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

  • In a developmental capacity, develop and provide technical aerial refueling technician upgrade an proficiency training/instruction to Reserve aircrew members and ART personnel.
  • Under supervision, assist the aircraft pilot in the operation of the aircraft by performing flight engineering duties.
  • Under supervision, assist the pilot in loading data into Inertial or Global Positioning Systems (INS/GPS) and Flight Management System Computer (FMS).
  • In a developmental capacity, perform aerial refueling technician duties.
  • Perform loadmaster functions.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the flying hours requirement below and be currently qualified (within last 36 months) as an Aerial Refueling Technician in a flying component of a U.S. MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT. (Active Duty or Reserve)

Flying Hours Required:

Aerial Refueling Technician, GS-09

Must have logged 200 hours as an Aerial Refueling Technician, in the KC-135 aircraft.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbents regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (2) Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the units assigned aircraft. (3) Must be instructor qualified, maintaining proficiency in the Principles of Instruction. May be required to maintain flight examiner qualification. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in-flight standardization/evaluation examinations to include random no-notice evaluations. (4) Obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance. (5) Be subject to the normal pressures, deadlines and other conditions inherent in this position and others found in the aircrew occupation, such as the hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demand of routine lengthy mission (up to 18 hours duration).  (6) Maintain proficiency in the use of firearms. As prescribed by regulation, may be required to carry and use a concealed weapon while performing aircrew related duties. (7) Perform duties of sky marshal.  (8) This is a drug testing designated (TDP). Incumbent is subject to random drug testing. (9) Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
