Job Description

Duties

Performs developmental assignments in conducting research on basic mathematical principles, methods, procedures, techniques or relationships.  Assignments consist of the less difficult and more routine tasks in support of higher-level mathematicians or other specialists, and become progressively more difficult as the incumbents knowledge and experience advance.

Performs recurring assignments. Independently performs recurring assignments of limited, but gradually increasing, difficulty and complexity as directed by the supervisor or team lead.

Participates in special initiatives, studies, and projects.  Works with other specialists to plan, perform research, and conduct special initiatives, studies and projects.

Prepares written correspondence and other documentation.  Drafts or prepares a variety of documents to include responses to routine inquiries, reports, letters, and other related material.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

A. You have a bachelors or higher degree; AND B. You have 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 15 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics; AND C. You have at least 6 semester hours of statistics with a calculus prerequisite AND the following mathematics courses: Calculus I, II, and III (or Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, and Multivariate Calculus), Linear Algebra, 1 additional junior/senior level mathematics course.

In addition to the basic requirements all applicants applying for the GS-07 grade level must meet 1 of the following requirements (education must be completed by 31 Aug 2017):
A.
You have a bachelors degree, or completed one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement OR B. You have at least 1 year of professional work experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, where your assignments were most often defined by your supervisor or by standard operating procedures, but you used some judgment in selecting the statistical methods and, when necessary, made minor changes to adapt the methods to situations. Your analytical methods and results, written documents, and reports were closely reviewed for technical and analytical adequacy. Your assignments should indicate evidence of statistical work such as: Sample design and estimation for finite populations, Design of data collection, processing, and analysis methods, Applying known statistical inference techniques to real data,& Development of new statistical methods; OR C. You have a combination of graduate education described in "A" and experience described in "B" that when combined meets 100% of the qualifications requirements of this position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. Mobility - you may be required to relocate during or after completion of your training.

2. Successful completion of all training and regulatory requirements as identified in the applicable training plan.

3. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

4. May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties.

Positions filled under General Schedule (GS) at entry level. Early promotion or re-promotions will not be granted.  During the three-year training program, there will be annual promotion opportunities based upon meeting time-in-grade requirements, successful performance, and supervisory approval at each grade level.  You will be eligible for noncompetitive promotion to the intervening and target grades dependent on satisfactory performance, successful completion of a full year of training at each lower grade level, and supervisory approval.

Selectee may be eligible for student loan repayment program; three year service agreement required.

PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS) EXPENSES IF AUTHORIZED WILL BE PAID IAW JTR AND AIR FORCE REGULATIONS.

STUDENT LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM (SLRP) MAY BE OFFERED FOR ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES.

Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have direct deposit.

This position will be filled on a full-time permanent basis. Upon competing any required probationary period, the position will be permanent.

This position requires completion of a two year probationary period.
