Job Description

Duties

  • Perform tests and measurements for the design and implementation of individualized rehabilitation programs.
  • Provide physical therapy related health care services to active duty and authorized beneficiary population in coordination with the Chief, Physical Therapy.
  • Proficient in the use and application of various therapeutic modalities.
  • Sets goals establish treatment parameters and schedules and communicate daily with involved parties to determine compliance, mental attitude, therapeutic progression and prognosis. Implement/evaluate treatment plans, progress, and coordinates activities to ensure effective and efficient delivery of patient care programs.
  • Terminate treatment in the event of an undesirable effect and consults with the Chief; Physical Therapy (a physical therapist) concerning changes in the program.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

GS-05:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level.

GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. Specialized experience includes to assigned patients their general interests, aptitudes, moods, reactions, and desire to participate in therapeutic projects. Work with patients in a variety of trial assignments to explore potential abilities, work tolerance, span of attention, and reaction to participation. Develop progressive types of treatment for each patient on the basis of information obtained through interview, observation and trial activity. Determine kinds of graded projects and sequence of operations which will advance patient towards treatment goals. Provide information and assessments of patients at medical staff meetings concerning the participation, progress, behavior, mental and/or physical reactions of patients assigned for treatment.

Education:
GS-05 -
Four (4) year course of study above high-school leading to a Bachelors degree with courses related to the occupation being filled.

GS-06: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Six months of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-6. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Specialized experience includes to plans and administers manual arts therapy as the employee in charge of specialized treatment area such as a shop or greenhouse. For example, plans the treatment of neuropsychiatric patients in one or more greenhouses; determines plants, fertilizers, equipment, and schedules for planting and cultivation consistent with horticultural requirements and treatment objectives for patients; selects and adapts treatment activities to needs and abilities of individual patients; modifies treatment procedures and treatment approaches to enable patient to overcome handicaps and progress; trains and supervises volunteers who work with patients.

AND

Must possess a current CPR certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the laws, regulations and ethical guidelines regarding physical therapy.

2. Knowledge of applied anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, psychology, biomechanics, medical terminology, pharmacology, pathology as well as legal issues related to rehabilitative medicine.

3. Knowledge of health care environments (OSHA requirements), demonstrated expertise in the areas of therapeutic exercise. Peripheral joint manual therapy and physical rehabilitation with the ability to apply new technologies and techniques in the treatment of potentially difficult or complex individual conditions.

4. Knowledge of available prefabricated protective equipment, skill in the proper fitting of protective equipment, as well as the demonstrated ability taping and wrapping techniques for the reduction of the frequency and severity of injuries.

5. Knowledge and the ability to administer and modify hydrotherapy modalities, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound (including phonophoresis), iontophoresis, and other therapeutic modalities as necessary.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
