Duties

Its primary purpose is to inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the WG-8 level, applicants must show at least 12 months experience in using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.

To qualify at the WG-10 (PD#D1366000) level, applicants must show at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military skill set is determined by AFSC requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations, guides and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC.

The compatible AFSCs for this position are:2A3X3, 2A3X8, 2A5X1, 2A5X2, 2A5X4, 2A8X1, 2A8X1C, 2A8X1E or 2A8X2E

Military Grades: You must currently hold a pay grade of E-2 through E-6 to be eligible to apply for this position


At a minimum, applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable background investigation for suitability purposes for employment in the federal government.  Not being able to maintain a favorable background investigation may result in administrative action, including termination from employment.   

 OTHER REQUIREMENTS  

· Incumbent must maintain membership in the Wisconsin National Guard.

· For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

· For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

· The wearing of the military uniform and abiding by the customs and courtesies as prescribed by applicable military service regulations are conditions of employment.

· Employees will be required to participate in direct deposit/electronic fund transfer (DD/EFT).
