Job Description

Duties

**This is NOT an all-inclusive list of duties.**

Performs and enforces the full range of security forces duties within the military installation.  Apprehends and detains violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turns them over to the Federal or civil police or other law enforcement officers for arrest and/or posting of collateral.  Responds to calls for emergency assistance to include active shooter, suspicious persons, catastrophic events, scenes of crimes/natural disasters and enemy attacks, and makes apprehensions.

Serves as a Security Forces Dispatcher for the installation.  Dispatches personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations.  Monitors the locations of all posts, alarm systems, closed circuit television systems and telephone/radio networks.  As required, coordinates with civilian police, fire, rescue and emergency units for assistance.  Uses computerized information systems to direct patrols, record daily blotter information, and retrieve information through the FBIs National Crime Information Center System. Interviews witnesses and suspects to obtain and verify information.  Interprets directives and instructions and answers general inquiries.  

Performs the full range of Base Entry Controller and commercial vehicle inspection duties.   Ensures individuals requesting access to the installation have the proper identification credentials before entering.  Performs random antiterrorism measures in accordance with applicable instructions. 

Performs the full range of duties for defending protection level resources (Patrol, Security Response Team (I-SRT & E-SRT). Defends installation personnel, equipment, and resources from hostile ground attack. Assesses the origin and cause of intrusion detection system (IDS) alarms in the area and makes required notifications.  Performs ground defense functions during base contingency operations and exercises.  

Qualifications

General Experience:  Understanding of the basic principles and concepts of military security forces functions, laws, policies, regulations, rules, procedures, and methods. Also, have general experience performing functions such as weapon systems and resource security, air base defense, law enforcement; and, if applicable for the position, experience in handling military working dog functions or combat arms functions.

Specialized Experience:   GS-06 Level - Is experience that prepares the applicant to perform the duties of the position. Knowledge is mandatory of: Weaponry, laws, directives, programs, policies, and procedures governing SF activities; installation security; weapon system and resource security; anti-terrorism; law enforcement and investigations; military working dogs; air base defense; training; pass and registration; civilian work force; and combat arms.

In addition to successful completion of the basic technical training course program, for this series, refer to each entry grade levels and mandatory experiences.

GS-06 Has experiences in performing practical security force (SF) activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security; law and order; or area security operations. Work experiences are in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations. Has experiences in protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. Has experiences in responding to disaster and relief operations and participates in contingencies.

Training. Completion of the security forces (SF) apprentice course is mandatory for award of the entry level AFSC 3P031.

Military Requirements/Compatibility Military skill sets for this series are determined by the Air Force requirements and the Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) definitions. Upon selection, individuals are assigned to a compatible military AFSC in accordance with statutes, National Guard regulations, and the current NG ANG Compatibility table. Applicants must understand and acknowledge their responsibilities to obtain and maintain all AFSC requirements in order to retain their dual status technician employment.

Other Requirements For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state drivers license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

If the duties of the position require the candidate to bear firearms, he/she must be qualified in accordance with the appropriate military regulation.
