Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) officer and manager of the unit Safety Program, to direct, monitor, and coordinate all unit safety program activities and function as a navigator instructor/evaluator on unit assigned aircraft. Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties: 

  • Manage the unit safety program.
  • Publicize flying safety issues and oversees the ground and/or weapons materials for the unit.
  • Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Serve as Instructor and/or Examiner Navigator in Unit Mission Aircraft.  

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the flying hours requirement below, qualify for a USAF Navigator Rating, and be currently qualified (within last 36 months) as a Navigator Instructor in a flying component of a U.S. MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT. (Active Duty or Reserve) 

Flying Hours Required: 

Navigator (Instructor), GS-12Must have logged 1,000 hours as a Navigator in a military fixed-wing aircraft. Must be currently instructor qualified in the C-130 aircraft.  NOTE:  Flying hours logged as a student Navigator are creditable.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Perform primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally, not to exceed 30% of total responsibilities.  (2) Be a mission-ready, rated Navigator Instructor/Evaluator on flying status in aircraft of assigned unit. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass standardization/evaluation/certification examinations which consist of both written tests and actual flight performance to demonstrate flight knowledge and abilities required of the position.  Incumbent must participate in regular and frequent flights, as required by the unit commander. (3) Incumbent is required to formulate, determine or influence policies of the unit to which assigned. (4) As necessary to meet special and/or essential unscheduled flying missions, may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, with brief advance notice. (5) If you are selected for an ART Officer position, you will be required to sign a mobility agreement prior to appointment. (6) Obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. (7) Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. (8) Position is designated for drug testing where the incumbent may be subject to random drug testing.
