Duties

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to serve as an Instructor Special Mission Aviation (SPMA) for the special mission variant aircraft.  To administer, schedule and conduct flight  Aircraft Loadmaster (Instructor) providing ground and flight training instruction for developing, upgrading, and evaluating the skills of loadmaster aircrew members, assist the pilot in the operation of the aircraft; perform loadmaster duties on assigned missions; accomplish required flight engineering duties; and perform related staff support duties. As such, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Develop and provide technical Special Mission Aviation upgrade and proficiency training and instruction to Active Duty, Reserve aircrew members and ART personnel.
  • Directly assist the aircraft pilot in the operation of the aircraft by performing as the sole aircrew technician. Accomplishes a wide variety of primary aircrew preflight, in-flight, and post-flight duties, including Bold Face Emergency procedures.
  • Accomplish a wide variety of pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight special mission loadmaster duties required by the nature of the aircraft assigned and/or the aircrafts specialized mission.
  • Standardization/Evaluation/Mission Planning/Staff Work.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:

Applicants must have logged at least 200 hours as an aircraft loadmaster and, in addition, must be a currently qualified C-130 Instructor/Examiner with at least 1 basic hour as a C-130 instructor or flight examiner in a flying component of a U.S. Military Component (Active Duty or Reserve) within the past 12 months of the date of application.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Incumbents regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.(2) May be required to work uncommon tour of duty. (3) Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. (4) This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968; An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. (5) Must maintain proficiency in the use of firearms. May be required to carry and use a concealed weapon while performing aircrew related duties. (6) May be exposed to the hazards associated with aircraft flight, plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy missions (up to 26 hours duration), must work in confined, hazardous noise areas, is subject to inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions during flight, and may operate in austere location. (7) This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent is subject to random drug testing. (8) Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve military requirements. (9) May be required to perform duties of sky marshal. (10) Must be instructor qualified and maintain proficiency in the Principles of Instruction. (11) Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level. 12) May be required to maintain flight examiner qualification.  Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in-flight standardization/evaluation examinations to include random no-notice evaluations.
