Job Description

Duties

As the Police Officer in this position, you will:

  • Enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of a military installation;  
  • Perform and enforce the full range of police officer duties such as carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations on a military installation;
  • Dispatch police units to scenes of crimes, accidents and natural disasters;
  • Ensure individuals requesting access to the installation have the proper identification credentials before entering;
  • Serve as a restricted area entry controller and immediate visual assessment sentry providing surveillance for sensitive, restricted, and limited access areas;
  • Conduct preliminary and final short-term investigations of a broad range of alleged and actual crimes;
  • Patrol the installation on foot or in vehicle.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Police Officer GS-0083-06 position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

 

At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 level (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include activities such as (1) exercising full powers of detention and/or apprehension which may include carrying a firearm and mirandizing suspects; (2) verifying credentials of personnel for restricted/authorized areas; (3) conducting preliminary and final investigations of alleged and actual crimes;  (4) performing traffic duty and (5) conducting random vehicle searches at private and commercial entry ways.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.

Other Significant Facts pertaining to this position are:

1. This position has been identified as a designated position under the Air Force Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent(s) of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.

2. Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.

3. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

4. Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required physical fitness/physical agility tests, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements.

5. Employee is required to obtain and maintain required Secret Security Clearance.

6. Must wear a uniform and meet applicable dress and appearance standards as identified in current AFI.

7. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.

8. May be required to wear protective clothing such as coats, boots, and vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).

9. Must undergo initial job compatibility assessment.

10. Incumbent must be able to operate all Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment. An appropriate, valid drivers license is required for the position.

11. Subject to annual duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard.

12. Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by functional; certificate from a Federally recognized Law Enforcement Academy is preferred.

13. Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties.

14. Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.

15. Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.

16. Ability to employ ˜infantry/SWAT small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, (e.g. Employing "Active Shooter" response tactics and techniques as a member of a small team is required).

17. Position is Not to Exceed (NTE) 13 months, could be extended up to three years.

18. This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.

19. "The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions.  This position is subject to the hiring freeze.  Although we are moving forward with the consideration of candidates, we will not make a selection for this vacancy announcement unless and until the position is no longer subject to the hiring freeze."

A term appointment does not confer eligibility for noncompetitive movement to other positions or for reappointment after separation from employment.
