TITLE:                    Branch Manager

REPORTS TO:     Vice President of Retail Banking

Position Summary:

Manages and influences the profitability of the assigned branch with particular emphasis on relationship sales; expands the sales culture and sales processes and provides leadership and resources to achieve desired results; directs branch staff activities towards attainment of branch goals; utilizes problem solving, decision making, team building skills, and maintains a high degree of flexibility; promotes high morale and exhibits positive attitudes towards customers and fellow employees while instilling a sense of team spirit throughout the branch; and serves as a Management Representative of Bank of Bennington.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes Bank of Bennington culture, philosophy, and values ensuring quality and teamwork in all areas by coaching and providing support in the branch and throughout the organization.
  • Manages the activities of the branch sales staff; ensures branch is adequately staffed; schedules hours; submits staffing level change requests to manager; delegate’s duties and authority; and assures that all activities provide value added service to members and internal customers.
  • Communicates frequently with staff through one-on-one sessions, staff meetings, email, or any other form of communication; addresses and resolves employee complaints, conflicts and problems that arise; shares information which affects the branch, and/or employee; seeks employees’ ideas, feedback, and opinion; and responds to employee communication in a reasonable time frame.  Information may include, but is not limited, to policy, procedure, and process changes and rationale, economic trends, Strategic and Business plans, operational information, and legal and regulatory matters.
  • Serves as a sales leader; communicates needs based sales philosophy; conducts sales meeting; ensures branch is obtaining or exceeding sales/profitability goals; and utilizes sales, referral and customer service skills to ensure the customers’ and internal customers’ needs are being met through efficient and effective service.
  • Oversees the cash assets of the branch; monitors teller performance of cash differences, transactions counts.
  • Attends weekly officers meetings, actively participates in discussion, communicates sales achievements and challenges, suggests changes in operational policies, procedures, and processes which will improve the branch’s effectiveness and efficiency; shares ideas and opinions pertaining to the enhancement of customer sales/service activities including product/service enhancements and sales campaigns.
  • Provides and/or recommends training for branch sales staff sales/service skills, products/services, technical compliance, policies, processes, procedures, regulations, technology enhancements, and business development; assists branch sales staff in developing and implementing a successful, referral program that targets both existing and prospective customers; and identifies/implements effective customer sales/service enhancements.
  • Receives and resolves high level inquiries and/or difficult customer issues; utilizes good judgment, problem-solving and negotiating skills to make sound business decisions in effort to retain valuable customer relationships; and forwards escalated customer complaints to Vice President of Retail only if unable to successfully resolve.
  • Assists with introduction and implementation of new products/services, system upgrades and other projects; and conducts testing and provides suggestions for product development and improvements.
  • Substitutes as branch staff as necessary with the ability to open accounts operate, a teller drawer, performing market analysis and conduct overall day to day operations of the branch.  
  • Opens and/or closes branch facilities and participates in Saturday rotation; monitors security devices and ensures building security; assists designated staff with unusual transactions; and coordinates needed maintenance with Facilities department including building, grounds, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Monitor all compliance issues as they relate to the bank to insure we are following all regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises non-supervisory employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Knowledge of Federal Bank regulations.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and principles.
  • Good communication skills.
  • High level of sales skills.
  • Ability to function as a team player.
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly and accurately.


  • High School Diploma plus college degree or equivalent experience.

  • Two years previous Banking Branch Management experience.
