Job Description

The Human Service Technician supervises and assists residents in learning and practicing new behaviors, including responsibility with assignments and chores.  This position ensures a clean and safe environment for clients and staff, communicates with all staff on the status of residents, presents lectures to clients, is responsible for the admission/discharge process, meal preparation, schedules client medical appointments, documents observations of residents and assures compliance with house and program rules and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Client Services:

Complete new patient admissions and proper documentation of medication.

Monitors vital signs and mental status functioning of individuals in detox.

Observes and records resident self-administration of medication.

Prepares and serves meals and supervises cleanup.

Conducts regular room and chore checks and must be able to access all areas of the facility

Must be able to transport clients to on-going appointments and meetings while in treatment.

Provides therapeutically suggested interventions for inappropriate/unacceptable behaviors by helping residents identify what s/he needs and new ways of handling the situation.

Responds calmly and therapeutically to crisis situations.

Demonstrates openness to new ideas and diverse points of view.

Shows evidence of unconditional acceptance of each resident.

Plays games and cards with residents when appropriate.

Conducts random/situational room searches, pat searches and drug screens.

Plans and conducts lecture and supervises community meetings.

Check out clients at discharge and inventory items.

Record keeping:

Identifies changes in resident’s affect and behavior, documents in records and notifies other staff as needed.

Keeps updated on resident’s progress through reading evaluations, progress notes, group notes, treatment plans and other means of communication.

Other Duties:

Attends staff meetings, at least 12 hours of trainings and other meetings as assigned by the Program Director.

Logs maintenance needs.

Attain CPR, Med Aide, AED and First Aid certification.

Must comply with Agency policies and procedures, including those regarding conduct, confidentiality, and record keeping.

Education and/or Experience     Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or a related field from a four-year college or university preferred; or two years related experience and/or training; and 2 years of education in a related field.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations   Must have a valid Nebraska driver’s license and an insurable driving/safety record

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to answer phone and direct callers.

Ability to type, file, photocopy, collate, shred, and organize files.

Ability to pass an extensive background check.

Willing to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

If in substance abuse recovery, a minimum of two years continuous sobriety/“clean time” is required.

Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Nebraska driver’s license and an insurable driving/safety record.

The Overnight Staff must remain awake during their entire shift.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, navigate stairs, stand, sit, and reach with hands. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The Overnight Staff must remain awake during their entire shift.
