Job Description

The Senior Accountant will work as part of the Finance team to perform accounting tasks as well as achieve the overall goals of the department.  The Senior Accountant is responsible for various general accounting functions including fixed assets, prepaid expenses, general ledger reconciliations, and month-end bank account reconciliations.  In addition, this position assists with month-end financial reporting and analysis, budget, external exams (FDIC, Nebraska Department of Banking, etc.), external audit, business intelligence report writing, call report preparation, and special projects.  The ideal candidate is detail oriented, thorough, analytical, collaborative, and flexible, possesses a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and multiple accounting software programs, and has strong communication skills.

The essential job functions of the Senior Accountant include:

  • Play an integral role in the accounting finance functions
  • Provide accounting insight to the various business units of the bank and perform most day to day accounting functions
  • Prepare reconciliations of bank and general ledger accounts
  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Assist in preparing federal and regulatory reports (i.e. quarterly call report, etc.)
  • Ensure entries and the general ledger are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and federal and state banking standards
  • Serve as the accounts payable and payroll functions back up
  • Assist in implementing new general ledger, financial reporting and budgeting software
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process
  • Assist with requests from external auditors, tax providers, internal and external compliance review teams and regulators
  • Assist with technical accounting research and maintain internal controls over financial reporting
  • Create and run queries on the core processing system
  • Assist with special projects
  • Comply with all banking regulations, policies and procedures


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive accounting and banking experience
  • Thorough understanding of financial statement preparation
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills and research abilities
  • Strong technological experience
  • Self directed, independent problem solver
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as ability to learn new technology
