Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
Removes existing structures by demolition to prepare for new structure. Removes materials from jobsite to dumpster. Wears appropriate/required safety equipment.
Prepares layout and working environment for safety and cleanliness by installing polyethylene over the carpets and protective dust shields or related client requirements. Also minimizes environmental noise for current occupants when necessary.
Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials. Cuts and shapes materials to prescribed measurements. Fastens materials together with nails, dowel pins, or glue. This may include installing metal framing, drywall, and other related products.
Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob, rulers, framing squares, and carpenter's level.
Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letterdrops, and kick plates. Performs both rough and finish type of work.
Utilizes carpentry hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner. Such as hammers, saws, chisels, planes, drills, power saws, table saws and nail guns. Properly stores and returns tools to warehouse for repair, maintenance, and tracking.
Must maintain safe and clean working environment per AOI and client standards.
Trains apprentices and new employees as needed. Verifies workmanship of apprentices by checking trueness of structure with a plumb bob, rulers, framing squares, and carpenter’s level.
May perform other duties as assigned such as erecting framework for structures laying subflooring, building stairs, laying out and installing partitions and cabinet work, applying shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls. May construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete. May erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level according to manufacturer and OSHA guidelines and may erect demountable wall systems such as V-Wall or O’Brien Wall.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum three years related Carpentry experience and/or apprentice training required. Interior commercial carpentry and commercial carpentry experience is preferred.
Must have good working knowledge of carpentry industry/trade.
Completion of a certified apprentice program preferred.
