Job Description


AOI has been a Commercial General Contractor since 1985. We are looking for a highly experienced Superintendent to join our team. Projects include new construction, conversions, tenant build outs, and remodels for retail, commercial office, restaurant, and healthcare clients.

AOI is customer service and quality oriented, and most projects are for repeat clients or by referral.  Our niche is our ability to work in occupied space alongside our clients while maintaining a safe and clean work environment.  Strong communication and leadership skills combined with a pro-active team approach are essential. 

Most of our project leads are "working" superintendents who can self perform certain portions of project while managing overall approach throughout all stages of the construction process.  A strong work ethic, passion for the construction industry and desire to lead and develop a growing team is essential.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the work on the jobsite to meet project expectations.
  • Oversee subcontractors to successfully complete projects according to contract requirements.
  • Schedule, confer, work with and direct project personnel.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, drawings and specifications.
  • Plan, assign and direct site activities.
  • Layout and quality management.
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited or no standardization exists.
  • Work with and communicate effectively with architects, engineers and owners.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions and owner concepts furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Effectively direct employees and subcontractors in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Maintain and promote a safe working environment.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, accountable, and able to set reasonable goals for self and others.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Minimum three years related Superintendent/Supervisory experience and/or training required.
  • Minimum five years related carpentry experience required. Interior commercial carpentry experience preferred.
  • Valid and current Nebraska/Iowa driver's license required.
