Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for two Engineers I/II/III/IV – Production.  We are hiring for one Mechanical Engineer and one Electrical Engineer from this postingThe position is to be located at NPPD’s new Princeton Road Station (PRS) which will be approximately 1.25 miles north of HallamNebraska.

 

Position closes December 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time, or until filled.


This position will report to the Engineering & Asset Manager - Production.

Position Summary

Engineer Level I to Level IV is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager. These engineering positions are managed under the Non-Nuclear Engineering Career Path.  The level of Engineer the incumbent will be hired into will be commensurate with their experience, as determined through our interactions and the interview process.  Tasks will be assigned by the manager per the skill level of the incumbent.  In addition to the general engineering functions noted below, the incumbent will be asked to complete cross engineering discipline work scopes. Thus, the applicant will be required to develop cross engineering discipline skills and have excellent customer service and communication skills across both NPPD and the utility industry. 

 

Level V Engineer is a business need position only and may be considered with the appropriate/relevant work experience and/or demonstrated performance indicating the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position. 

 

Job-specific knowledge and expectations for this individual role will include:

Design Engineering and Construction Support

The incumbent will have design and construction support responsibilities for the site and equipment development of Princeton Road Station.  These responsibilities will include 1) The reading, writing, and field implementation of NPPD contractual documents, 2) Field oversight and engineering of NPPD hired consultants, contractors, and other vendors, 3) Field engineering, implementation, and commissioning support for the permitting and construction of the various PRS facilities, 4) Schedule review, comment, and development to support design, construction permitting and startup support for the PRS facility, 5) Drawing review, comment, and incorporation into NPPD’s EDMS, 6) Master data gathering, organization, and incorporation into NPPD’s SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Business System software, and 7) Other duties necessary as the project develops or as assigned by management. 

 

Plant Engineering: The incumbent has responsibilities, including daily support for PRS Operations and Maintenance, trending system performance and initiating actions to restore / improve system performance and reliability, troubleshooting off-normal system conditions, failure and root cause analysis, evaluating proposed configuration changes, recommendations to maintain asset value, coordinating maintenance-related projects, and capital project management and implementation.

 

The new PRS will be a combined Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE) and Combustion Turbine (CT) power generation site that will utilize current state of the art technology for these generation types.

Education, Training and Experience

Engineer Level I & II: Bachelor of science degree or higher in engineering from an Accreditation Board for

Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited university or college or Professional Engineering license obtained by accredited examination. Entry level position with assignments designed to develop general knowledge of professional engineering practice in the electric utility industry and introduce customer/supplier communication skills. Second level position with assignments designed to develop competent technical knowledge within an engineering discipline, develop customer relations skills, and introduce project management skills.

 

Engineer Level III: Bachelor of science degree or higher in engineering from an Accreditation Board for

Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited university or college or Professional Engineering license obtained by accredited examination. A fully competent engineer in conventional aspects within the specific discipline with expertise in specific areas of past assignments. Assignments designed to expand the areas of expertise within the discipline, develop project management skills, and develop a general knowledge of other disciplines.

 

Engineer Level IV: Bachelor of science degree or higher in engineering from an Accreditation Board for

Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited university or college or Professional Engineering license obtained by accredited examination. A minimum of 10 years of power plant engineering experience required.

None.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Engineer Level I:

Performs tasks of limited and specific scope under the direction of experienced personnel. Applies standard engineering practices and techniques, utilizing prescribed methods in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Judgment is required on details of work such as correlating data and recognizing discrepancies in results. Communicates with customers and suppliers as directed by supervision.
