Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Drafter I or II - Structural/Civil located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. Position closes February 28, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Columbus Structural/Civil Drafting Supervisor.
Drafter I or II
Responsible for creating and revising drawings of low to moderate complexity utilizing CAD applications (AutoCAD), personal computers, and plotters. Comprehend technical mark-ups, engineering data, and a variety of computer application requirements. Accurately apply designs to standard drawing layouts and metadata to computer applications.
Senior Drafter
The Senior Drafter (Structural/Civil) position is responsible for creating and revising drawings utilizing CAD applications, personal computers, and plotters. Comprehend technical mark-ups and a variety of computer application requirements. Accurately apply designs to standard drawing layouts and metadata to computer applications. The incumbent must serve as a peer resource to others as an expert in the Structural/Civil drafting work group on critical projects and/or processes by mentoring staff and verifying the accuracy of colleague’s work. Capable of an increased level of complex drawing creation and comprehending related engineering considerations. Research drawing, vendor, and material resources within and outside NPPD to acquire accurate drawing information. Obtain and record facility information through facility inspections. Ensure drawings accurately reflect facility infrastructure. A thorough knowledge of resources available including NPPD facility infrastructure. Ability to work within those resource applications, materials, and facilities to obtain data.
Drafter I
Associate degree in the civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related drafting technology OR post high school education in the civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related technology with one year of experience in a drafting/design environment OR similar military training with one year of experience in a drafting/design environment OR high school diploma/GED with three years of experience in civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related technology in a drafting/design environment.
Basic AutoCAD and 3D modeling knowledge and experience preferred.
Drafter II
Associate degree in a civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related technology with two years of experience in a drafting/design environment OR post high school education in the civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related technology with three years of experience in a drafting/design environment OR similar military training with three years of experience in a drafting/design environment OR high school diploma/GED with four years of experience in civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related technology in a drafting/design environment.
Intermediate to advanced AutoCAD knowledge with a minimum of 2 years’ experience required. 3D modeling knowledge and experience preferred.
Senior Drafter
Education required includes Associate degree, or Post High School education, or military training. All education fields of study shall include one of, or a combination of structural, mechanical, civil, architectural or in a related drafting technology OR high school diploma/GED with 4 years’ experience in civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related technology in a drafting/design environment.
In addition to the education requirements above, incumbents must also have the following experience to advance to a Senior Drafter position:
6 years: AutoCAD and Development
4 years: Working within the NPPD Drafting department or other NPPD departments with similar work as determined by management; 3D Modeling and Development of software programs including but not limited to Inventor, Revit, Recap, Civil 3D, etc.; High and Low Voltage Substation drawings; Sub-T and or Distribution Substation drawings.
2 years: 3D Inventor Modeling and Development; Civil/Plan & Profile Transmission line drawings, High & Low Voltage Substation & Transmission Standards; Sub-T and or Distribution Substation Standards; Civil Grading drawings. Work within and utilize SAP.
1 year: Drawings related to but not excluding Facility, Power Plant, Structural Steel, Piping, and Civil.
Quality Assurance and the training of other Employees.
All skills require minimal to no oversite and guidance while achieving a high level of proficiency and sustained customer satisfaction, which will be determined by management.
As determined by management, a test or type of testing may be utilized for consideration as part of the hiring or promotion process.
May require badging for Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS); may require North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) access.
Drafter I

Comprehend technical mark-ups, engineering data, and a variety of computer application requirements. Accurately apply designs to standard drawing layouts and metadata to computer applications. Increased complexity level of drawing creation requiring minimal oversite and guidance while achieving and sustaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Independently research drawing information, vendor, and material resources within and outside the District to acquire accurate drawing information. Independently obtain and record facility information through facility inspections while ensuring drawings accurately reflect facility infrastructure. A thorough knowledge of the resources available and the District's facility infrastructure. Ability to work within these resource applications, materials, and facilities to obtain data while requiring minimal oversite and guidance. Assist in the training of other employees. Assist the Drafting Electrical Group upon request.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.
Drafter I - pay grade 8 non-exempt salary - $3,829 to $4,691/month
Drafter II - pay grade 9 non-exempt salary - $4,199 to $5,249/month
Senior Drafter - pay grade 11 non-exempt salary - $5,260 to $6,575/month
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
