Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has immediate openings for two Operations Analyst (Technical Analyst [Entry]; System Analyst; or Senior System Analyst) in the Corporate Security Department located at Columbus, Nebraska. Other locations may be considered for the right candidate.

Position Summary

This may be an entry-level position for colleagues possessing a relevant bachelor’s degree with no previous ET/Corporate Security work experience. This may also be an advanced position for those colleagues advancing from ET Support Technician. Emphasis is on implementation tasks such as application program coding, software installation, server administration, and local area network and security administration. Colleagues advancing to this position from ET Support Technician would be expected to function independently without oversight often at remote locations. Experience gained in this position includes problem analysis and resolution, systems design, and knowledge of the operating systems and networks used by the District.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field (OR) an Associate's degree and 3 years technical IT experience including specific experience as listed below (OR) a high school diploma/GED and 5 years technical IT experience including specific experience as listed below.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Security Clearance: Incumbent may be required to satisfy any existing and future District security clearance or background check requirements for access to key NPPD locations and/or supporting sensitive business applications.

Obtain and maintain intermediate to advanced technical certification aligned with key business system platform(s) used at the District (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Certifications, and Security related best practices) as applicable.

Position Summary

The incumbent's primary role is to support portions of the District's North American Electric Reliability Corporation's (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance program. Systems supported include traditional Information Technologies (IT) and Operations Technologies (OT)  that support the electrical grid. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain, develop, and ensure compliance with NERC CIP Standard
  • Monitor for software vulnerabilities in substation OT equipment
  • Facilitate the change management process for applicable IT & OT cyber systems
  • Facilitate the vulnerability assessment program for applicable OT cyber systems
  • Develop software implementation packages for security updates to applicable OT systems
  • Maintain transient cyber asset program (laptops used on OT equipment in the electrical grid)
  • Maintain relay servers used to access OT cyber systems
  • Provide support of IT systems used in NPPD’s Security Operations Center 

Education, Training, and Experience

Operations Technical Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering or related field (OR)an associate degree and 3 years technical IT, utility engineering, regulatory compliance, or related experience (OR) a high school diploma/GED and 6 years technical experience.

Operations System Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related field and 3 years technical IT, utility engineering, regulatory compliance, or related experience (OR) an associate degree and 6 years technical experience, (OR) a high school diploma/GED and 9 years technical experience.

Operations Senior Systems Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related field and 5 years technical IT, utility engineering, regulatory compliance, or related experience (OR) an associate degree and 8 years technical experience, (OR) a high school diploma/GED and 10 years technical experience.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

Security Clearance (Operations Analyst-All Levels)

  • Must satisfy any existing and future District security clearance or background check requirements for position duties (e.g. Nuclear Safeguards, FBI InfraGard, NERC, etc).

Operations Technical Analyst

  • CompTIA Security+  (or)
  • SANS GSEC Security Essentials (GSEC)

Operations System Analyst

Within one year of accepting the position

  • SANS Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)   

Operation Senior System Analyst

Obtain and maintain one or more of the following professional certifications within two (2) years of accepting the position:

  • SANS Response and Industrial Defense (GRID)  (or)
  • SANS Critical Infrastructure Protections (GCIP)  (or)
  • Multiple Professional Security certifications approved by the Director of Corporate Security & CSO. 

Salary Information: 

Technical Analyst               $67,896.00 to $85,763.00

Systems Analyst                 $76,152.00 to $96,190.00

Senior Systems Analyst      $86,604.00 to $111,533.00

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
