Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Sub-Transmission & Distribution Operator Apprentice, II, I, or Senior located in Kearney.

Summary of Job duties:

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of NPPD's jointly operated Sub-Transmission system (69kV and 34.5kV), and Distribution systems in the District's multi-substation system (includes system control, system security, operations, retail load optimization systems, Power On, Outage Management System and SCADA system.) The incumbent will coordinate personnel and system strategies for outages during both normal and emergency operations and take actions necessary to maintain a safe, reliable, and efficient system. The incumbent will be required to successfully complete the requirements of the System Operator Progression Program. In addition, individuals in this position are expected to live within 30 minutes of the Kearney Control Center, in the event of a call-in.

Apprentice Operator is the entry level and a pay grade 12. Operator II is pay grade 12, Operator I is pay grade 13, and Senior Operator is pay grade 13.  All title and pay grade changes are normally managed through the progression program.

This position will report to the Kearney Operator Team Leader.

Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:

Incumbent must be recommended based on the System Operator/Power Dispatching II (SO/PD II) test results.

Apprentice Operator - Technical School Degree in related electrical field (OR) High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years related electrical experience* as indicated below.

Operator II - Technical School Degree in related electrical field (OR) High School Diploma/GED plus 4 years related electrical experience* as indicated below.

Operator I - Technical School degree in related electrical field plus 3 years related electrical experience* as indicated below (OR) High School Diploma/GED plus 7 years related electrical experience* as indicated below.

Senior Operator- Technical School degree in related electrical field plus 6 years related electrical experience* as indicated below (OR) High School Diploma/GED plus 10 years related electrical experience* as indicated below.

Related Experience: Utility line, substations, commercial/residential/industrial electrical, utility power plant operations, electrical engineering, electronics, utility system control, power system planning, electric utility engineering technician.

*Note: A bachelor’s degree in a related field may be considered/substituted for up to 3 years (maximum) of the related electrical experience requirement.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required/Preferred:

Apprentice Operator – Entry level position; incumbent responsible for meeting probationary requirements within NPPD's Sub-transmission & Distribution System Control Operator progression program.

Establish and maintain acceptable NERC Security Background check.

Operator II – Must meet the requirements of the Sub-transmission & Distribution System Control Operator progression program. Successful completion of NPPD's Sub-transmission & Distribution System Control Operator II written exam and oral review board within 12 months.

Must have NPPD certifications (Switch person & Clearance holder).

Establish and maintain acceptable NERC Security Background check.

Operator I – Minimum of 2 years' experience as System Control Operator II. Successful completion of NPPD's Sub-transmission & Distribution System Control Operator I written exam and oral review board.

Must meet the requirements for experienced personnel defined by the Sub-transmission & Distribution System Control Operator progression program to be hired as an Operator I. Must complete the requirements of an Operator I within the prescribed timeline identified in the progression program.

Must have NPPD certifications (Switch person & Clearance holder).

Establish and maintain acceptable NERC Security Background check.

Senior Operator – At least two (2) years of experience as an Operator I at NPPD before being considered for nomination by Operator Team Leader.

Must meet the requirements for experienced personnel defined by the Sub-transmission & Distribution System Control Operator progression program to be hired as a Senior Operator. Must complete the requirements of a Senior Operator within the prescribed timeline identified in the progression program.

Salary Information:

Apprentice Operator/Operator II: $31.91 - $40.31/hour

Operator I/Senior Operator: $35.79 - $45.21/hour
