Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Apprentice/Line/Journey Distribution Line Technician located in Ogallala, NE.

Summary of Job duties:

Perform construction, maintenance, and operation of the NPPD electrical systems, including Transmission, Subtransmission, and Distribution Lines, Substations and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Take assigned after-hours standby duty on a regular basis. Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height regularly to perform work as required in a safe and productive manner without close supervision. Provide storm support as requested both in and out of state.

Safely construct and maintain Transmission, Subtransmission, and Distribution lines and facilities while providing the technical leadership in areas of responsibility.


Education and Training:

Apprentice Technician - Must be a graduate (Certificate, Diploma, or Associate's Degree) of an accredited line technician school; OR achieve a certificate from an NPPD approved program; OR have documented line technician experience with another utility or electrical contractor that is considered an acceptable equivalent to the formal education options listed.

Line Technician - Must meet the Apprentice Technician educational requirements. Internal incumbents must have satisfactorily passed all requirements of the Line Technician Training Program. External incumbents hired into the Line Technician level will be required to enter the Line Technician Progression Program as outlined in the 'Program Outline for Experienced Personnel' section.

Journey Technician - Must have achieved Line Technician status with NPPD OR obtained an official Journeyman certification with another utility or contractor. External incumbents would be required to complete the Journey Oral Review as outlined in the Line Technician Progression Program. 

Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

All Levels – Must maintain Red Cross Community CPR and First Aid Certifications, Pole Top and Bucket Truck Rescue Certifications. Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.

Line Technician and Journey Line Technician - Switchman Certification must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment and maintained thereafter.

Journey Line Technician - Incumbents must obtain and maintain Clearance Holder Certification.

Prior Related Experience:

Apprentice Line Technician - Entry level position.

Line Technician - Thirty months as an Apprentice Line Technician is the normal previous experience requirement (as outlined in the Line Technician Progression Program) for this position and the completion of the Line Technician Written Exam.

Journey Line Technician - Four (4) years combined experience at the Apprentice and Line Technician levels is the normal minimum experience requirement (as outlined in the Line Technician Progression Program) for progression to this position.

Salary Information:

Apprentice Line Technician, $25.29 - $31.94/hour

Line Technician, $28.32 - $35.77/hour

Journey Line Technician, $31.91 - $40.31/hour
