Associate Superintendent

Serves as a chief administrative leader for the assigned Boys Town special educational school system and programs. This role will provide leadership and oversight for the educational programs that support our short-term/specialized curricula, through the Residential Treatment Center, Day Schools, and intervention and assessment program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Oversees and coordinates all administrative duties for the assigned school system groups and programs.

  • In partnership with the Boys Town Superintendent, this role assigns, supervises, and evaluates all special education/program personnel and support services team members.

  • Administers all aspects of the programs, within scope of responsibility, to include development, implementation of a master schedule, staffing assignments, student scheduling, transportation, custodial, hiring, and allocation of resources.

  • Designs, implements, and manages a system of information management to track student enrollment and attendance. Provides needed information to accurately bill for regular and special education.

  • Supervises the conduct of both students and staff, within the assigned programs/schools, ensures due process, and maintains records on all disciplinary actions.

  • Supervises the safety and maintenance of the assigned school facilities and sites.

  • Provides regular program audits to assure compliance with state and federal regulations and all funding guidelines; provides timely reports of proposed and adopted state and federal regulations, to include oversight of special education teacher certification, staff development activities, and all special education processing, to meet state and federal guidelines.

  • Oversees the preparation of the annual budget for programs supported and presents it to leadership, as applicable.

Oversees the educational components of the special education programs, to meet the needs of the students and families served.

  • Develops and implements curriculum, program, and procedures designed to meet the educational needs of all identified special education students enrolled at service delivery sites.

  • Serves as a consultant to teachers and other school staff for remediation of communication disorders for identified students.

  • Demonstrates concern and respect for individual students, assumes major responsibility for academic and social growth of each student, and cares for student health and well-being during the school day.

  • Maintains a high level of professional competence via in-service education, self-selected professional education, and curriculum development.

  • Initiates and follows up on contract with other school districts for services provided.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in management, administration, observation, communication, and collaboration.

  • Knowledge of state policies, statutes, and procedures on education and regulations.

  • Knowledge in curriculum, educational supervision, and instruction.

  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills. Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization and with external contacts in an articulate, professional manner, while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to successfully lead a team of education and administration professionals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in secondary education administration or a closely related field required.

  • Minimum 7 years of education administration experience, including special education supervision is required.

  • Travel to various school sites required.

  • Nebraska Administrative Certificate with Education Specialist or Doctorate required.

  • Endorsement in Superintendent PK-12 required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate degree preferred.
