Job Summary :
The Alumni Support Specialist provides proactive and crisis support to alumni with a primary emphasis with alumni after the first five years after transitioning out of care. The role collaborates with other areas of the organization to assess, provide, and monitor services and support to youth as they depart from Boys Town.
Schedule: Full Time: Monday through Friday, day hours. On-call for crisis calls (including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays).
Develops relationships with Alumni, youth, other school staff, Youth Care, institutions that offer trade certifications, community businesses, and outside agencies to achieve effective transition from Boys Town.
Initiates and maintains proactive individual contact with Alumni via phone, text, web-ex or in person.
Assists with development of aftercare plans for students leaving Boys Town and remaining in the area to help them succeed at the worksite or school of choice through regular visits, training, frequent phone contact, and coordination of staff and service to intervene when needed.
Communicates and maintains relationships with alumni through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, to develop proactive relationships essential to supporting Alumni success.
Responds to and returns Alumni calls as a first line of support, gathering information to resolve the issues, and/or assisting others in the resolution of the problem in a timely and professional manner.
Provides Crisis Support by conducting a needs assessment. Explores internal and external supports. Assists Alumni in accessing resources and support.
Utilizes the Boys Town National Hotline database to obtain resources for alumni in their local areas.
Administers Boys Town Scholarships and the delivery of financial assistance. Monitors Boys Town Scholarship Recipients academic performance through transcripts, communication with the student and college. Attends Boys Town Scholarships Committee Meetings to review college transcripts and National Data Base Documentation to guide decisions regarding financial support for continued education. Reviews financial assistance given to alumni on a case by case basis and reports decisions to the Director of Alumni Services.
Documents services provided to alumni and/or their families in the National Database.
Communicates and seeks information from Youth Care to make knowledgeable decisions.
Provides the Boys Town Development and Marketing Department with Alumni success stories to utilize for marketing and news stories.
Establishes and implements positive relationships with school, youth care staff and outside agencies.
Plans and implements events/activities such as the Alumni Reunions, Alumni Board Meetings and crucial activities.
Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field or High School diploma with three years of experience with the Boys Town Model.
1 to 2 years of experience including working with children and families; experience working with children and families in community-based programs or Boys Town Programs preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license with a good driving record, plus the ability to provide own transportation (mileage reimbursement) to complete travel requirements of the job. Must pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check.
This position must be available to provide crisis response and must be available to work non-traditional business hours including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
