Job Description Summary:


Incumbent will be responsible for ensuring continuous availability of the University of Nebraska inter-campus networks, Network Nebraska, connectivity with state, regional, national networks, and the Internet. Including the design, implementation, and management of switches, routers, optical network equipment, network appliances, and network management solutions. Monitor, analyze, and ensure network performance, capacity, and uptime meet university service level agreements within a 24×7 operation. Troubleshoot complex problems, individually, with other members of the team, and with third-parties. Requires regular interaction with other networking, systems, and telecom professionals in the design and delivery of services; and with end-users to provide direct support. This position will uphold the ITS core principles of outstanding collaboration and communication, a drive to succeed, a passion for higher learning, and acting with integrity.

Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical EngineeringFive (5) years experience in a lead role, with the configuration, design, installation and maintenance of networkhardware/software required working in a large network (150+ networking devices such as routers, switches, firewalls,not including APs, PCs or servers) environmentWorking knowledge of Windows and UNIX operating systemsKnowledge with Ethernet networking; TCP/IP; DNS/DHCP; BGP routing; and architecture and maintenance of routers, gateways, and switchesDemonstrated experience working with a staff of highly technical network professionalsExperience developing budgets and financial proposals related to network projects and bidsPreferred QualificationsKnowledge or experience with wireless, including capacity planning and site surveys; preferredFamiliarity with optical multiplexing and IPv6 and associated implementation / migration issues; desirableKnowledge of Cisco NexusExperience with load balancers, common security tools (i.e. firewalls, VPN systems) and network management toolsExperience providing network services in support of high I/O production environments associated with Virtual ServersAbility to translate business need into technical solutions and to communicate complex technical issues to non-technicalprofessionalsCisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent certificationEquivalent combination of education, experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.The ideal candidate is an agile professional with strong interpersonal communication skills, flexibility and responsiveness; exhibits high ethical standards; proficient in managing time and competing priorities; responsive and committed to supporting University staff; committed to the ideals of a major public research university.


Special Instructions to Applicant:


This position has a minimum annual salary of $85,000 and is eligible for alternative worksite arrangement (remote-within commuting distance to Lincoln, Omaha or Kearney campus).
