The Data Solutions Administrator provides a crucial role in helping the NU System achieve the vision of making actionable data accessible to users across the system. This position also functions as a technical expert in source data, extraction, and repository creation.
The Data Solutions Administrator must possess a collaborative attitude, strong oral/written communication skills, excellent problem solving skills and solid analytical/critical thinking skills. The Data Solutions Administrator must possess a strong understanding of industry best practices for both on premises and cloud-based solutions and ensure that all solutions deployed at the University of Nebraska meet business, security and privacy requirements.
Technical Know How
Possesses the ability to conceptualize, build and maintain a wide variety of data structures to include data marts, data warehouses, data lakes, and data pipelines. Comprehends distinctions between row- and column-oriented databases. Understands the properties of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data. Identifies relevant time dimensions of data and their proper application for a particular data use case (e.g., real time, batch, near real time, hourly/daily, etc.). Proficient in metadata management principles. Documents data structures, processes and informational materials in a format easily accessible to a wide range of data users. Demonstrates fluency in one or more data-relevant programming languages/utilities (SQL, PL/SQL, Java, Python, Hadoop, C, C++, etc.) and one or more database management systems.
In addition to the Know How listed above, this position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, related field or equivalent. Minimum 3 years’ experience in data modeling. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in database warehouse environment. Demonstrated competency with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server database is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered.
• Minimum 3 Years of SQL query writing. Must have the ability to write complex, highly-optimized queries across large volumes of data
• Minimum 3 years developing and maintaining ETL processes.
• Minimum 3 years working in relational database systems
• Minimum 3 years developing data models and schema design.
• Experience in Higher Education.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
