SUMMARY

The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for supporting the accounting functions to meet the administrative needs of the organization. This position is responsible for providing accounts payable and payroll support for Nebraska Children and Families Foundation (NC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ACCOUNTS PAYABLE include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Receive, review and secure necessary approvals for all accounts payable invoices
  • Review approved invoices and provide account codes for proper grant and project accounting
  • Record invoices and credit memos in accounting software
  • Reconcile and process credit card payments
  • Print and mail checks, file vouchers
  • Enter new vendors and update existing vendor information
  • Reconcile the monthly employee benefit invoices
  • Update vendor information into the Automated Clearing House (ACH) database
  • Review billing statements to ensure all invoices and credit memos have been received
  • Other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: PAYROLL include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in payroll process as required
  • Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data, to produce accurate and timely payroll using Paylocity
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable State and Federal wage and hour laws
  • Updates individual payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in rates, exemptions, insurance coverage, bank accounts
  • Maintains schedule templates to account for budgeted payroll allocations across funding sources
  • Stays current on payroll systems to achieve alignment with organization benefits and processes
  • Communicate with supervisors and employees regarding employee timesheets, approvals, inaccuracies, and other payroll inquiries
  • Other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: GENERAL ACCOUNTING include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitors accounts receivable to include private grants receivable, outstanding reimbursements from the State of Nebraska, and drawdowns of federal funds
  • Prepares invoices for private grants receivable and ad hoc invoice requests
  • Enters payments from donors, major funders, and state and federal governments
  • Assists with the reconciliation of the accounting software records to the donor database
  • Assists with routine requests for supporting documentation from all funders, private and public
  • Assist with preparation for the fiscal year-end audit and ad hoc monitoring reviews
  • Provides assistance with manual calculations and recording activity through journal entries
  • Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in accounting or finance: Solid technical accounting knowledge with 4+ years non-profit accounting experience with proven ability to consistently manage projects and meet deadlines.  Strong analytical and computer skills (Microsoft Excel) with emphasis on accuracy and details. Knowledge of GAAP and OMB guidelines is required.  Experience with grants and grant proposals and knowledge of MS Office Suite is preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside partners. Ability to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance professionals.

Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factor, and identify relevant concerns or factors. Ability to identify patterns, tendencies and relationships. Formulate logical and objective conclusions. Recognize alternatives and their implications. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in person. The employee is required to have visual abilities to focus on computer screens and printed documents. The employee is required to have manual dexterity to operate a computer and standard office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is generally performed in a typical office environment. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Ability to occasionally travel within the state.
