JOB OVERVIEW
  • Coordinates, facilitates and participates in assigned Madonna Quality programs and projects including but not limited to Patient Safety, Employee Health & Safety, and Infection Prevention. 
  • Actively contributes to and participates in the evaluation and continuous improvement of employee health & safety, patient safety, infection prevention and quality procedures.
  • This includes health screenings for new hires, injury/illness prevention and assistance with the coordination of ill/injured employees to return to work. 
  • Leads various Quality programs including but not limited to Nursing Safety Champions, infection related programs and processes.
  • Provides leadership and support for patient quality initiatives.
  • Collects, compiles, and reports data as assigned.
  • Provides services and support to health of employees as it related to their job duties.  
  • Deals with highly confidential material on a routine basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring the confidentiality and privacy expectations for staff and Madonna.
  • Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
(INFORMATION)
Employee Health and Safety
  1. Coordinates and facilitates assigned employee health and safety programs.  Role models collaboration and effective communication with employees demonstrating sensitivity to those who are injured/ill.
  2. Collects data related to employee safety practices. Assists in the organization, documentation and coordination of data collection to facilitate analysis of employee safe care practices which could include but not limited to infection prevention, ergonomic evaluation of employee work stations and practices.
  3. Completes post offer pre-placement health screening within the scope of licensure.  Reviews screening data with assigned RN according to defined criteria and/or if there is concern with ability of the person to perform essential job functions.  Gathers, organizes, documents and maintains complete and accurate health related data and ensures appropriate forms and procedures are complete related to post-offer/pre-employment policies and regulations.  Communicates to hiring manager if new hire has not completed requirements by tentative date of hire. 
  4. Coordinates and participates in tuberculosis screening program of employees.
  5. Coordinates employee immunization programs for all eligible employees to prevent illness and minimizes the loss of productive work.
  6. Coordinates, leads, and conducts annual Employee Influenza Immunization Program including notification of all departments of program details; distribution and maintenance of consent forms.
  7. Records, organizes and assists in the analysis and reporting of employee health and injury data for quality improvement, system reports, and billing accuracy and efficiency.
  8.  Maintains active and inactive employee health records in a confidential & secure manner.
  9. Collaborates to ensure updates to employee weekly work restriction list and may assist with distribution.  
Infection Prevention
  1. Assists in the coordination, collection and reporting of quality improvement and infection prevention data from a variety of sources which may include the patient clinical record, laboratory reports, staff and\or external sources.
  2. Assists in the organization, documentation and coordination of data collection facilitating analysis of patient care practices.
  3. May provide surveillance and/or investigation into occurrence of infections and infection prevention practices.
  4. Assists in the identification of infections to be reported to the National Healthcare Safety Network.
Quality
  1. Assists in planning, analyzing, reporting and promoting the Culture of Safety Survey. Assists the leaders of all hospitals in identifying opportunities for improvement in culture of safety as appropriate.
  2. Reviews patient incidents and provides follow up in areas of potential patient safety improvement.
  3. Provides leadership by example, training, investigating, problem solving, and equipment analysis and competency assessment to employees throughout Madonna in safety practices.
  4. Leads and/or participates in quality projects or initiatives. 
  5. Other functions as assigned and prioritized by manager in order to achieve corporate and system goals. 
(PEOPLE)
  1. Collaborates and communicates with Quality\Risk Coordinator in regards to employeeâÂ?Â?s ability to perform duties following a leave of absence as it related to duties of their position. 
  2. Relays information from health care provider to managers/supervisors and/or human resources related to ability to work related to steps for employee to return to work safely.
  3. Welcomes visitors to the Quality/Risk offices in a manner that is respectful, collaborative and hospitable and provides for privacy of person and information.  Assesses and assists to meet the needs of those persons seeking health and/or safety services making appropriate referrals as needed.  Assists employees in the completion of Employee Health forms to ensure accurate information is gathered to provide quality service while promoting customer satisfaction.
  4. Responds to employee requests for confidential information (i.e. immunization records).
  5. Administers Intramuscular and Subcutaneous injections, Tuberculin PPD (Mantoux) tests and performs other nursing tasks within education, scope of practice and direction of the RN. 
  6. Follows policies and procedures to ensure provision of first aid treatment or referral to medical provider when treatment is beyond established policies and procedures.
  7. Participates and provides facilitation for small group including meetings, committees and training sessions as assigned.
  8. Leads and contributes to training and competency evaluation in areas of quality improvement, employee safety, and areas of infection prevention.
  9. Role models skills necessary to conduct challenging conversations, team building, and positive relationships for achievement of meaningful and innovative outcomes.
  10. Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department and system.
  11. Approaches customer relations as a primary focus and continually strives to meet and exceed the expectations of customers.
(THINGS)
  1. Operates phones to access incoming calls as well as placing calls to provide prompt, courteous service. 
  2. Operates personal computer, software programs, copier, fax machine and printer to access, compile and process data for correspondence and reports.
  3. Actively contributes to an environment in which all persons can be successful and safe.
  4. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety and cleanliness standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury. 
  5. Operates necessary medical equipment as needed to complete assignments.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  • Occasional lifting of 25 lbs, frequent lift and carry 15 lbs. 
  • Frequent sitting and occasional walking. 
  • Frequent reaching with both arms at low and waist levels. 
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and twisting. 
  • Constant near visual acuity. 
  • Ordinary hearing and speaking skills. 
  • May be exposed to biohazardous materials when handling used sharps. 
  • Indoor work not exposed to outdoor elements. 
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training and/or Experience)
  • Must possess current Nebraska LPN licensure. 
  • CPR for Health Care Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuer required. 
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a variety of clinical settings. 
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience required. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration and problem solving skills. 
  • Basic data collection skills required. 
  • Experience using personal computers and word processing and data base software (preferably Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer,) and office machines required. 
  • Must be able to function independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Have excellent personal organizational skills and the ability to prioritize. 
  • Critical thinking is necessary to work in challenging human situations and achieve positive outcomes.
