DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW
 
Serves members and guests by assisting and instructing safe and proper use of exercise equipment, keeps equipment clean and functioning properly, and serves as a customer service representative on the fitness floor. Provides additional customer service support in the front desk and play center areas when needed.  May assist instructing group fitness classes. Responsible for facility coverage as needed. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
(INFORMATION)
  1. Cleans, lubricates and performs light maintenance on exercise equipment and documents in the cleaning log book. 
  2. Identifies exercise equipment that needs major repair, posts â??out of orderâ? sign, documents in log book and contacts supervisor for follow-up. 
  3. Knowledgeable in front desk operations so that basic member needs can be met, such as check in, program registration, scheduling and canceling services and payments to account.
(PEOPLE)
  1. Circulates and monitors the fitness equipment areas insuring the safe and effective use by members and guests. 
  2. Provides facility tours to new members and guests, introducing them to the facility, policies and proper use of equipment, and to other special programs and services (group exercise, aquatics, personal training, events, workshops, series etc.). 
  3. Serves as a customer service representative and helps members and guests with any needs they have. 
  4. Leads or assists group fitness classes as assigned.
  5. Opens and closes the facility according to the facility opening and closing established checklist. 
  6. Insures members and guests are aware of and follow policies and procedures in all areas of the center. 
  7. Supports and cross-sells all ProActive departments, programs and services. 
  8. Maintains active involvement in all ProActive special events and programs. 
  9. Provides additional customer services support to staff at the front desk and play center when indicated by customer needs and volume.
  10. Assists with ensuring front desk operations are completed appropriately.
  11. Become proficient in the use of the phone system so answering, holding, and transferring calls are accomplished quickly and professionally.
  12. Enforce the child check in/out process, assuring this is done each time a child enters or leaves the Play Center. 
  13. Supervise and entertain all children left in the Play Center area in the safest manner and in compliance with the highest standard of care
  14. Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals of ProActive. 
(THINGS)
  1. Is proficient on the function and use of all pieces of exercise equipment. 
  2. Insures the fitness floor and equipment areas are clean and free of clutter and obstructions. 
  3. Keeps equipment clean by wiping down upholstery and lubricates equipment according to standards. 
  4. Will provide light maintenance to broken equipment immediately or report to supervisor for repair. 
  5. Conducts regular walk-through of the entire facility, including locker room, and picks up towels and helps to insure a clean environment.  
  6. Responsible for facility coverage as needed.
  7. Maintain and ensure a safe environment for the department. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
 
Must have constant near visual acuity with ordinary hearing and speaking skills.  Frequent lift and carry 25 pounds, occasional lift to 50 pounds with rare lift over 50 pounds when spotting members on free weights. Frequent walk and stand. Occasional sitting. Requires frequent bending and stooping. Must tolerate occasional to frequent horizontal reaching with both arms. Frequent grasping of both hands requiring normal grip strength based on national averages.  Has potential for blood or body fluids when providing emergency care.  May be exposed to biohazardous materials. May be exposed to pool chemicals.  May be exposed to blood and body fluids.
 
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/training and/or Experience)
 
Must have a minimum of a high school diploma and excellent customer service skills.  Must have 6 months experience in a customer service work environment.  Preferred candidate will have experience in fitness related capacity or be currently enrolled in college in an allied health field, such as exercise science, physical therapy, or athletic training.  Must be CPR/AED certified within 30 days of hire.
