I.   DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW

Responsible for researching, implementing, installing, evaluating, diagnosing and maintaining Local Area Network (LAN), Wireless LAN (WLAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and Storage Area Network (SAN) including hardware and software components and related technical service and support policies and procedures.  Responsible for the availability, security, and stability of the Madonna network.  Responsible for developing, implementing, testing and maintaining disaster recovery plan.  Develops and maintains network access and security procedures.  Responsible for diagnosing and solving network, server, and client computer based hardware and software problems.  Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for the department and Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and Madonna.

II.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      (INFORMATION)

1. Coordinate, analyze, and isolate installation and replacement of network components to insure overall availability, security, and stability of the Madonna network.
2. Compile, analyze, implement and coordinate preventative maintenance tasks to minimize network hardware and software malfunctions.
3. Coordinate, compile, analyze and maintain a working knowledge of network hardware and components utilized at Madonna.
4. Compile, analyze and maintain the physical infrastructure blueprints for the LAN, WLAN, WAN, and SAN.
5. Coordinate, analyze and synthesize LAN, WLAN, WAN, and SAN usage, installation and configurations.
6. Establish and maintain accurate, meaningful productivity measures for monitoring LAN, WLAN, WAN, and SAN.
7. Analyze, coordinate, implement and maintain, as appropriate the physical wiring infrastructure for the Madonna network.
8. Maintain awareness of new technology or technology not currently utilized that might be beneficial to Madonna.  Communicate with immediate supervisor and customers and support customers in analyzing, implementing and coordinating such new technology.
9. Synthesize, analyze, compile and coordinate the day-to-day operations of Madonnaâ??s network hardware and software.
10. Analyze, coordinate, compile and synthesize all operating systems for computers and network to ensure processing timeliness with minimal downtime.
11. Coordinate, analyze and synthesize vendor contracts to ensure timely and accurate support and in full compliance with all legal requirements.
12. Ensure ITS standards and procedures are documented and adhered to.  Maintain comprehensive network documentation of systems.
13. Provide technical support to other ITS team members in the creation or re-engineering of Madonna processes.
14.  Maintain all network components in support of vendor upgrades and Madonna requirements.
15. Coordinate, compile and analyze all software and hardware to insure standardization of platform where appropriate.
16. Compile, analyze, and maintain various logs recording activities within the Madonna network.

     (PEOPLE)

1. Must perceive customer relations as a primary focus to the department and continually strive to satisfy the needs of every customer in all areas of the work force.
2. Assist and provide backup for other Network Engineer(s) and Technician(s).
3. Establish and maintain excellent relationships with outside software, hardware and component vendors.
4. Coordinate, mentor, instruct and lead internal task forces regarding various aspects of the network environment and successfully lead in making the appropriate changes.
5. Analyze, compile and record current research materials to keep departmental services up to date with the latest operating system software and hardware.
6. Instruct and orient new information system staff to objectives, operational definitions and procedures relating to the department.
7. Communicate to customers and provide support in analyzing, implementing and coordinating such new technology in order to provide quality service delivery.
8. Attend and actively participate in training courses and other learning opportunities whenever possible.
9. Establish and maintain accurate, meaningful productivity measures, monitoring outcomes on a routine basis and taking effective action to meet such standards.
10. Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department and/or system.

     (THINGS)

1. Ensure adequate backup of all job functions prevail in order that Madonna is well protected in the event of employees unable to perform duties by providing documentation of procedures.
2. Set up, install, operate and monitor the LAN, WLAN, WAN, and SAN.  Initiate corrective and preventative changes as necessary.
3. Analyze, obtain and utilize precision diagnostic utilities as an aid to diagnosing common malfunctions.
4. Coordinate the set up, installation and operation of all network hardware and software required for effective information system support.
5. Maintains high degree of knowledge relating to the communication system components utilized at Madonna.
6. Set up, operate, handle, and maintain a working knowledge of the PC hardware, server and network hardware, cables, and other communication system components utilized at Madonna
7. Maintains and ensures a clean, organized, and safe environment for the department.
8. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury.
9. Must be able to operate copier, telephone, fax machine and have proficient computer skills, including e-mail, word processing, presentation, spreadsheet functions.
10. Provides and operates motor vehicle and travels as necessary in order to contact and   service clients.

III.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Sedentary work  â?? Must be able to cope with stress of deadlines and working in a small, physically close and fast paced office.  There will be the need for an occasional extended day.  This position physically demands much sitting, some walking, stooping and medium lifting (5 â?? 75 pounds).

Requires sufficient vision to see and read handwritten numbers/material and computer printouts, and must be able to view the computer screen a majority of the day.  Requires sufficient hearing and speaking to communicate efficiently via telephone or in person with others.

Indoor work â?? not exposed to outside elements or hazards except for travel to remote sites.

Mobility required to travel to scheduled events, other work sites, or meetings as needed.

IV.   QUALIFICATIONS (Education/training and/or Experience)

EDUCATION -Required

Bachelors degree in computer science, MIS, engineering, teaching, or network design and support discipline; or the applicant must have an acceptable combination of education, IT industry certifications, and comparable work experience.  Competency specialization in either Cisco or Microsoft networking technologies is required.  See Professional Licensure below.

EXPERIENCE - Required

Four years experience as Network Engineer working directly with LAN, WLAN, WAN, and SAN data communication technologies as they apply to corporate networks. Experience in TCP/IP networking protocols, and Ethernet topologies.

SKILLS - Required

Considerable problem solving, presentation, coordination and interpersonal skills are required to perform the planning, consulting and communicative responsibilities of this position. This position requires the ability to work independently and within a team environment.  Must be self-motivated, demonstrate excellent organizational skills and problem solving abilities.  Must have the ability to work in demanding situations without adverse reaction and interact in a positive manner with staff and public, either in person or by electronic communication.  Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.

 Must have current valid Nebraska driverâ??s license and proof of good driving record required.
