Assist in the administration of various group benefit programs offered through the CLT&E Benefit Office.  The ideal candidate will possess in depth knowledge of group medical and dental plans along with a working knowledge of employer sponsored retirement programs.    

 

Must develop a thorough understanding of the benefit programs provided along with applicable standards, rules and regulations associated with group benefit plans.    

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

HEALTH & WELFARE:

  1. Monitor and maintain the eligibility files for plan participants.  Issue new enrollment packets to newly eligible individuals and ensure that the Benefit Office has received the proper documentation and that such information has been recorded and maintained within the computer systems.  Ensure that the eligibility files housed by the third part administrators match those of the Plan.         
  1. Monitor, maintain and process all vision and disability claims in accordance with the terms of the Health & Welfare Plan and all applicable rules, regulations, and industry standards.  Maintain individual files for claims once the claims are settled.
  1. Serve as the Plan’s COBRA administrator.  Monitor monthly reporting and provide notices to terminated participants as necessary.  Enroll new participants and remain alert to those that have exhausted their eligibility.         
  1. Coordinate the processing of all life insurance claims with the Fund’s third-party administrator.  Serve as a resource for the families and/or beneficiaries of the deceased.     
  1. Assist in the review of various plan documents including enrollment materials and the Summary Plan Description. 

 

PENSION:

  1. Coordinate the pension application process as necessary to ensure that each applicant is provided with all necessary materials and guidance.  Ensure that the application is complete, and that all supporting documentation has been provided as required.    
  1. Monitor and maintain all associated data files, both electronically and in paper form, for all pensioners and their beneficiaries; including changes in addresses, taxes withheld and bank accounts.      
  1. Conduct annual verifications to ensure that the recipient of the benefit is the intended pensioner/beneficiary.  Monitor and manage the accuracy of the data files and investigate any discrepancies.  Remain alert to any changes the participant’s account and take the appropriate action to maintain the required accuracy and accountability.   
  1. Council applicants/pensioners on the applicable terms and conditions of the Plan.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  1. The ideal candidate will possess at least two (2) years of administrative experience with group benefit plans.  Must be able to develop a through understating of CLT&E’s benefit plans and be able to communicate such in a clear and accurate fashion.   
  1. College level coursework in human resources, public administration, communications, business administration, employee benefits, or a related filed is desired.
