Transportation Coordinator

Job Description

Position Summary 

This individual will assist in managing the day to day operations within the transportation function.  

Duties and Responsibilities

 Transportation Coordinator:

  • Confer with customers about services, tariffs, specific transport conditions, advisable packaging and organizing freight to destination.
  • Calculate costs, and provide data and feedback for Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) and analysis.
  • Identify and plan the most appropriate routes and means of transportation; taking into account, cost and capacity availability.
  • Carry out orders, i.e. dispose, arrange and monitor transportation and storage, and keep track of shipment through all phases of the journey. 
  • Develop relationships with customer and carrier bases.
  • Contact carrier representative to arrange and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of goods in accordance with customer requirements. 
  • Obtain, prepare, issue and check transportation documents to meet requirements and compliance as needed.
  • Assist clients in the event of a claim (e.g. damage, loss, overage).
  • Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices or orders to verify accuracy and validity of claims.
  • Undertake clerical and administrative work.

 Systems Management:

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP WMS system.
  • Manage location control.
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy in inventory integrity and daily operations.
  • Use all available systems for communications with internal and external partners.

 Business Management

  • Demonstrates understanding of financial impact of decisions. Actively shares core business knowledge and processes to leverage team.
  • Uses appropriate resources, analysis, experiences, judgment, and wisdom to make timely, sound business decisions.
  • Prioritizes continuous improvement opportunities and develops teams proficiency in continuous improvement methods.  Monitor continuous improvement metrics.
  • Establish and implement methods and best practices to build and support a lowest landed cost warehousing and distribution network. Use of Transportation Management System to optimize lane rates and routes.
  • Develop and execute a sourcing strategy to meet the companys business growth and sourcing requirements.

 Network Management:

  • Select and cultivate a relationship with regional distribution centers
  • Develop and manage a forward deployment supply chain network

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Education Required:  High school diploma.  Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Three years experience in transportation and logistics environment or equivalent experience substitute.
  • Ability to work in a constantly changing, fast paced production environment
  • Able to work effectively with all levels of employees including plant personnel to senior management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule to meet production and operations needs.
  • This position requires regular and prompt attendance during the working hours scheduled by the Department Manager.
  • Knowledge of warehouse procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong SAP experience is a must.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
