Job Description


Busy oncology / hematology private practice office is currently seeking an energetic and self-motivated RN to join our team in providing quality, compassionate and empathetic patient care.

 Primary Nursing Responsibilities

  • Ensures patient is appropriately prepared for care encounter
  • Performs and/or directs patient care services including, but not limited to assessment, accurate concise documentation and maintenance of timely patient flow
  • Ensures appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to exams, treatments, procedures and testing
  • Conducts telephone triage using sound nursing judgement
  • Facilitates timely communication to/from patient/family and other health care disciplines
  • Manages follow-up calls to patients
  • Schedules and provides patient instructions for tests, treatments and hospital admissions, following office protocol
  • Communicates plan of care to the patient/family so they can understand.  All teaching is documented in the EMR to include understanding of topics taught.
  • Obtains pre-certification, when necessary, or notifies appropriate personnel to ensure insurance approval is obtained
  • Prepares and administers medications and treatments including chemotherapy after appropriate training
  • Demonstrates proficient IV skills
  • Utilizes professional skills and judgement in delegating and coordinating the plan of care
  • Identifies/assesses the need for physician involvement or a potential change in plan of care
  • Assembles and maintains supplies and equipment to ensure a state of readiness
  • Assists physician with procedures and implementation of care plan
  • Demonstrates the ability to do charting in an electronic medical record and utilize the electronic record as the resource for patient information
  • Demonstrates the ability to accept and complete other assigned tasks in a professional manner  

 Knowledge / Skills/ Abilities 

  • Must be able to communicate and work with people from a variety of age-groups, social strata and ethnic backgrounds
  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure
  • Must be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team player
  • Must be able to utilize both verbal and written communication skills to all levels of employees and management
  • Must be a team player with strong customer service focus.
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Must demonstrate a flexible attitude
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Must be able to take instruction from others
  • Must demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality

   Education and Experience

  • Completion of a Registered Nurse program in an accredited institution is required 
  • Current RN licensure approved for work in the State of Nebraska.  Nebraska and Iowa are compact states so licensure is obtained in the state of residence.
  • Oncology experience not required
  • New graduates welcome
