Job Title: Training Specialist

 Job Classification: Exempt   

 Reports To:  Education and Training Coordinator

 Job Summary:  Works with Education and Training Coordinator to achieve goals and plans of the program and the Agency. Training Specialist will develop, coordinate, and provide trainings to Families Forever families, families formed through adoption and professionals on topics determined in conjunction with Education and Training Coordinator. Develop and provide trainings to Families Forever employees based on best practices in the field with the direction of the Education and Training Coordinator. Supports the policies and procedures established by the Agency.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops a training calendar in conjunction with the Education and Training Coordinator.
  • Evaluates and analyzes Families Forever educational trainings and activities with the Education and Training Coordinator and provides recommendations.
  • Develops, evaluates, and analyzes progress on training and education goals and objectives. Including reporting progress on the Families Forever education and training plan.
  • Utilizes technology to develop and provide webinars to families, professionals and staff on topics identified by the Education and Training Coordinator and/or stakeholders.
  • Utilizes family centered principles, theories and practices, along with the NASW or ACA code of ethics, in making decisions.
  • Prepares, reviews and submits written documentation and/or plans as directed by the Education and Training Coordinator.
  • Creates and maintains working relationships with other social service agencies by attending community social service meetings.
  • Attend educational training or workshops to obtain personal ongoing professional development and to maintain individual license(s), if applicable.
  • Adheres to confidentiality guidelines.
  • Demonstrates respect, appreciation, and sensitivity for diversity.
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of educational classes and/or support groups for parents and children.
  • Collaborate with other community professionals working with families formed through adoption and guardianship.
  • Participate in the promotion of the Families Forever Program.
  • Adherence to NCHS Policies and Procedures, contract requirements COA Accreditation Standards and other compliance standards as indicated.
  • Participate in the Families Forever program evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement activities as assigned.

Supplemental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participation in NCHS activities as required;
  • Commitment to NCHS mission, vision and values and strategic goals;
  • Commitment to NCHS CQI initiatives;
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with all internal and external professionals;
  • Participation in agency committees as assigned;
  • Completion of at least 20 hours of ongoing education each year specifically related to the position;
  • Ongoing compliance with all contract and grant position requirements;
  • Positive representation of NCHS in all community settings;
  • Adherence to confidentiality policies;
  • Demonstration of respect, appreciation, and sensitivity for diversity;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Families Forever Coordinator.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum experience and education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a human service-related field required.
    • Knowledge of adoption services, foster care, family systems and family therapy, and children’s mental health issues (including attachment, bonding, and grief and loss).
    • Experience in developing professional educational curriculums
    • Experience in providing training to professionals and to families.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities:
    • Ability to manage a high-volume schedule with multiple demands.
    • Ability to observe situations with sensitivity and objectivity.
    • Ability to work independently, self-manage and work toward goal achievement.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Knowledge of program development and building relationships in the service community.
    • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to work with person of diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Ability to follow regulations and procedures.
    • Ability to read, discern and interpret information given by clients.
  • Physical demands:
    • Regularly required to speak and hear, walk, climb, sit, use hands and fingers to operate, handle or feel objects and equipment.
    •  Manual lifting requirements are medium.
  • Schedule Demands: (travel, adjustments to accommodate clients, weekends/evenings, etc):
    • Must be able to adjust his/her work schedule to accommodate the need of families, including evenings and weekends.
  • Site Factors (work environment, travel, etc):
    • Majority of work will be in an office or remote environment, but local and state travel will be required.

Salary: $43,000 – 46,000/year
