Reports to: Major Gifts Officer

Job Summary: Supervise the receipt process for contributions to the Nebraska Children’s Home Society. Determine and record the gift value of all contributions. Create acknowledgements for all incoming donations and maintain Raiser’s Edge database. Respond to inquiries from donors and families regarding contributions. Create reports and perform searches of the data base for relevant information to assist solicitors. Create prospect lists for personal visits, and contact lists for mailings and events. Research individual and business donor prospects. Provide administrative support for managers and director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive all donations and grant funds to the Nebraska Children’s Home Society, enter into Raiser’s Edge, produce and mail acknowledgements.
  • Complete forms and receipt documents for bequests, memorials and matching gifts.
  • Prepare and send reminders for pledge payments due.
  • Reconcile all receipts and bank deposits with the Accounting Department on a regular basis.
  • Assist other staff to ensure that donors and funders are properly credited and acknowledged for their contributions to the NCHS.
  • Plan and perform donor research, and provide reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, and/or Major Gifts Officer.
  • Create procedures for gift entry and acknowledgement consistent with IRS and Development Department regulations.
  • Maintain contact and family information in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Provide leadership for the NCHS staff in the creation and customization of queries and reports for individual areas (mailings, financial and Board reports, special events, etc.).
  • Coordinate the production and distribution of adoption creeds.
  • Create and send the annual IRS tax letter.
  • Prepare acknowledgement letters for the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Participate with the NCHS team on NCHS projects and events.
  • Maintain donor files.
  • Perform other duties as assigned the Major Gifts Officer.

Supplemental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide backup support for the Development staff in answering phones, greeting guests, and other administrative support functions.
  • Abide by all specific program and procedures, policies and requirements.
  • Assist with special events and conferences as needed.
  • Able to work occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Display a courteous and caring attitude at all times to the donors, volunteers, and visitors of the NCHS.
  • Demonstrate respect, appreciation, and sensitivity for diversity.
  • Inform the Chief Philanthropy Officer, or their representative, of activities, goals, trends and issues related to job duties and responsibilities.


  • High school diploma, with a Bachelor's Degree preferable.
  • Proficient in the use of Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft Excel; and possess knowledge and understanding of other Microsoft Office software.
  • Valid Driver’s License, acceptable driving record
  • Responsibilities require daily decision-making, sound judgment, organization, team work, analysis, problem solving, and ongoing task prioritization
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to handle many projects simultaneously.
  • Is dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance

Physical Demands:

The selected individual must be able to work at a desk for an extended period of time. Extensive use of a calculator and keyboard for a computer are necessary. Employee must be able to operate a phone, printer, fax, paper shredder and postal machine. Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 lbs. Must possess normal walk, sit, climb, talk and hear functions.

Work Environment:

Most of the work will be in an office environment with various temperatures and amount of room, depending on the time of year.
