Nebraska Children’s Home Society is looking for an Assistant Early Childhood Teacher with a passion for children and teaching in our Early Childhood Program in our Durham location. The early childhood assistant teacher is responsible for providing a safe and effective learning environment for children in accordance with the philosophy and mission of the Nebraska Children’s Home Society.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develops weekly lesson plans for children by:
a. Identifies individual skill and academic strengths and deficiencies.
b. Completes Parent Daily Report
c. Prepares and updates documentation.
d. Communicates results, including concerns, with appropriate co-workers, supervisor, and or parents.
2. Creates, organizes and leads structured daily activities by:
a. Implements academic curriculum;
b. Teaching daily living and pro-social skills;
c. Supervising crafts, recreational activities and field trips.
3. Interacts with children in a professional and positive manner by;
4. Maintains a safe environment by:
5. Displays good social and communication skills by:
6. Participates in staff training.
7. Demonstrates respect, appreciation, and sensitivity for diversity.
8. Participates within Continuous Quality Improvement.
Supplemental Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs other duties as assigned by the Early Childhood Program Director.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. Minimum education and experience:
a. Must be at least 18 years of age.
b. Have a high school diploma or GED; and 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for young children as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor; or written plan for Department approval to acquire at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development, in a period not to exceed six months.
2. Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
a. Knows issues related to early childhood development;
b. Able to follow regulations and procedures;
c. Able to read, discern, and interpret client information;
d. Able to handle situations with sensitivity and objectivity
e. Displays strong interpersonal skills and communication;
f. Utilizes basic computer skills and able to learn program-specific applications;
g. Able to work independently toward goal achievement
h. Possesses driver’s license and personal vehicle
3. Physical demands:
a. Walk, sit climb, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate, handle or feel objects and equipment.
b. Operate office equipment
c. Lift objects up to 75 pounds.
