Position Overview: The shop foreman is the lead technician in the Cabelas Powersports Service Department. This position supports the Powersports Sales Manager in managing a profitable and efficiently operated service department and the activities associated with the sales, service, repairs of boats and ATV/UTVs, rigging of boats, and installation marine accessories/electronics. The shop foreman role will; schedule the service department work orders, assign work orders to the technicians, riggers and porters, supervise satisfactory completion of the work orders and be able to perform all technical/rigging activities. This person will work directly with customers to obtain customer satisfaction and increase service department revenue by increasing service department productivity plus, building a long lasting relationship with customers who support the Cabelas brand..
Essential Job Functions:
Perform duties associated to the diagnostics and repairs of boats, motors and ATV/UTVs. Additional duties will include the rigging of boats, installation of marine electronics and boat trailer repairs
Works with customers to schedule repair appointments and work order creation. Assigns the work order based on job requirements, technicians skill set and required completion date. Review the completed job with tech to insure job is done right the first time. Close out the repair work order and review with customer to promote customer understanding and drive customer satisfaction. These tasks will be shared and supported by service writer, service administrator, and sales manager.
Supervise and support service techs, riggers, and porters in their efficient completion of their assigned work orders and task. Ensuring that their productivity is not impacted by parts availability, lack of tools, supporting technical manuals, training and interruptions. Monitors service personnel performance, training status and requirements. Developing techs to become certified with engine manufactures.
Constantly aware of the service departments financials. Focused on improving/growing service department billing efficiency. With the sales manager's support, review of the weekly reports and monthly P&L to identify opportunities for improvement and leverage successful processes. Knowing the department financials and maintaining the departments financial accountability.
Other Duties as Assigned by Management.
Vocational/Technical School Certificate- Marine Engine Certification, outboard/inboard
2 to 4+ Years' Experience
Must have management experience in auto or marine industry (required)
Service technician background (required)
Marine engine certification is preferred, hiring preference is to give those with current certifications in Mercury, Yamaha, Evinrude, Suzuki, or other brand outboard and inboard motors/engines
Computer Skills, Microsoft, Excel
This position will be supervising other service department techs, riggers, and porters.
