The Mortgage Loan Associate is responsible for the mortgage application to close process of the homeownership program. This role works with Program Associates and borrowers to prepare them for homeownership and mortgage eligibility. This role assists with pre-closing preparations and provides technical support and culturally competent customer service during the loan closing.  The position will build and maintain strong partnerships with program staff and mortgage team staff to implement efficient processes leading to compliant, timely and successful residential mortgage closings.  The position reports to the Senior Program Manager.

 

Requirements

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Leads mortgage preparation for the underwriting process for Habitat homeowner loans from application to closing with Mortgage Team staff. 
  • Work with Family Services to compile, evaluate and manage the process needed for mortgage pre-qualification.  
  • Leads, maintains and updates the homeownership application process including documents that meet compliance 
  • Serves as the primary lead in Family Services for  Encompass 
  • Maintains shared access tracking system to monitor status of all items leading to mortgage closing date;
  • Analyzes applicant financial data;
  • Resolves problems throughout application process through closing;
  • Primary point of contact for all borrowers
  • Review and explain Loan Estimates (LE’s), Closing Disclosures (CD’s) and mortgage documentation with borrowers.
  • Ensures all mortgage regulations and standards are met and maintains credentials, including annual certification with American Bankers Association;
  • Maintains current certifications and industry knowledge through research, workshops, training and required compliance;

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 2 years of Mortgage Lending experience, preferred 
  • GED or high school diploma, required, bachelor degree in related field, preferred;
  • 2-4 years of experience in a client-facing customer service roles. 
  • Experience as a loan officer or related role preferred
  • Experience with low- moderate-income populations, preferred;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, required. Bi/multi-languages, a plus;
  • Outstanding customer service skills with diverse, multi-lingual populations and organizational partners;
  • MS Office suite and database experience required;
  • Highly motivated and organized towards team success including organizational goals and individual professional development goals;
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
  • High level of attention to detail required;
  • Requires evening and weekend hours, as needed;
  • Goal oriented and Habitat Omaha mission driven required;
