ABOUT THE JOB

  • Reviews entire current electronic medical record for pertinent diagnoses and procedures.
  • Assigns diagnoses and procedure codes on inpatient records in accordance with established organization guidelines.
  • Uses ICD-10 coding methodologies following Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting using encoding software.
  • Queries physicians to clarify documentation needed for coding purposes per established departmental policy.
  • Performs abstraction of clinical and demographic data as pertinent to the account requirements.
  • Participates in documentation improvement program using 3M software and communicating with Clinical Documentation Specialist regarding DRG assignment.
  • Position requires excellent computer/communication skills for provider and staff interactions.
  • Knowledge of anatomy/physiology and disease process, medical terminology, coding guidelines, documentation requirements, familiarity with medications and reimbursement guidelines
  • Candidate must have ability to handle multiple projects and appropriately prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Candidate must have excellent organizational skills, able to understand and follow individual client Standard Operating Procedures
  • Candidate must have at least three years inpatient DRG experience at a Level I academic medical facility.
  • Client required pre-employment coding skills testing

EPIC or Cerner Experience preferred. 3M 360 CAC experience required

Certifications/Licensure:

Certification must be granted by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and/or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)

Current AAPC or AHIMA coding certification required:

  • Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
