The Controller for Ollie Webb Center, Inc. will work three-quarter time (generally between 32 - 34 hours per week) Mondays through Fridays with flexibility on daily start and end times based on needs.  Evening and weekend hours are required for certain special events and projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related experience
  • 2 years of supervisory experience, required
  • 2 years of financial experience within the non-profit sector, preferred

Additionally, some of the essential job responsibilities of the Controller include, but are not limited to:  

Accounting Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of accounting practices and principles as to be able to prepare financial statements conforming to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Knowledge of general business practices to ensure the organization utilizes best practices and has information to make strategic and tactical business decisions
  • Maintain all financial records
  • Prepare monthly financials including balance sheet and income statement
  • Prepare budgets with input from appropriate others
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, cash availability, and donor analysis
  • Update agency financial policies and procedures which ensure segregation of duties and the appropriate application of funds
  • Prepare payroll and records as well as quarterly and annual payroll tax reports; submit as needed
  • Process 1099s
  • Input, generate, and maintain vendor payments and records
  • Make all federal and state tax payments
  • Track and report employee accumulated and used leave information
  • Administer employee benefits plans
  • Record revenue received, including grant monies promised/received
  • Record and document journal entries
  • Enter all bank transactions
  • Reconcile bank statement with accounting software
  • Distribute expenses, as appropriate, to individual cost centers
  • Record postage charges
  • Monitor all agency billing records and ensure all billing is documented
  • Monitor Accounts Receivable and collections
  • Monitor billing files
  • Serve as liaison to external auditors to ensure the agency complies with generally accepted accounting principles
  • File alphabetically and numerically

Computer Skills

  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets and pivot tables
  • Type 25 words per minute

Physical Prerequisites

  • Operate a computer, calculator, fax, scanner, and copy machine
  • Sit and work at a computer for long periods of time
  • Lift (under 25 lbs.) and carry equipment/material

Personnel Supervision

  • Interview, hire, and train employees as well as assign, direct, and oversee their work
  • Conduct performance evaluations including rewarding and disciplining employees
  • Address complaints and resolves problems among employees
  • Apprise, and implement, established personnel policies and procedures
  • Provide regular support and guidance through routine supervisory meetings

  • Represent the agency in a professional manner at all times by modeling integrity, upholding ethical standards, and demonstrating solid interpersonal skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills - including the ability to communicate ideas and information concise and clearly as well as understand and follow verbal and written instructions

  • Detail-oriented as shown through organizational and record-keeping skills

  • Maintain confidentiality of agency, participant, and personnel information

  • Arrive to work on-time and in attendance on scheduled working days
  • Leadership skills
