Job Description

General Overview of Position:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for supporting the individuals with disabilities they serve in learning and/or improving various types of vocational, life, and socials skills through Ollie Webb Center, Inc.'s Continuing Education/Art of Imagination Programs.  Class sizes are 3 - 4 students to one instructor with all students being 18 years or older.  Classes meet at Ollie Webb Center, Inc., but move to an off-site location pertinent to the subject being taught/learned.  Direct Support Professionals are also responsible for teaching individuaized habilitative goals designed for each student.  The ultimate goal is to increase and improve the individual’s independence and interdependence within various environments.  ?

  • Ollie Webb Center, Inc. is specifically hiring an On-Call DSP for our Continuing Education/Art of Imagination Department.  Applicants must be available between the hours of 9a - 4pm Monday through Friday.  A specific number of hours per week is not guaranteed.  The position may evolve to include regular hours, if needed and desired.  The On-Call DSP must be readily accessible via phone or email to learn of, and respond to, available shifts quickly.

DSP Responsibilities

  • Arrive to work on-time and in attendance on scheduled working days
  • Verbal and written communication skills - including the ability to communicate ideas and information concise and clearly as well as understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Develop and implement person-centered habilitation goals for each student
  • Empower students
  • Influence, motivate, and persuade others through teaching and modeling of appropriate social and life skills
  • Instruct, train, and support students to enhance their employment skills, community integration and independence
  • Utilize various techniques when teaching skills and concepts to participants of varying abilities

Physical Prerequisites

  • Ability to travel both in and out of city limits
  • Lifting (under 25 lbs) and carrying equipment/material as required


  • Must be 19 years of age
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, vehicle, as well as have a good driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, preferred
  • At least two (2) years of college coursework in education, special education or psychology, preferred
