IT Software Engineer - QA

Job Description


The QA Engineer position is a crucial role in the continuing effort to provide quality software and services to our clients and, therefore, collaborates, writes, and executes tests.  In addition, this position reports system performance, readiness, and reliability.  The QA Engineer also ensures the system functions correctly, that customer experience with new changes is positive, and that system performance, availability, security and compliance are not compromised with each new release.  This position also generates reports on quality of production releases and approves releases for production.


  1. Responsible for the reliability and consistent quality of software releases, including end-to-end performance, security, and high availability/redundancy.
  2. Ensure core software regression and a range of individual client functionality is targeted each release using a wide range of test resources and automated test plans.
  3. Review requirements specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback; ensure test cases are valid and match the business requirements; verify all changes are tied to documented and approved requests/requirements.
  4. Develop test strategies and execute well-structured test cases.
  5. Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities.
  6. Set up and ready testing environments in preparation for test cycles. This will also include making sure test card numbers/accounts and any other resources needed are readily available.
  7. Develop and execute automated testing methodologies and coordinate with a team of test engineers, software developers, network/infrastructure engineers, security specialists, and compliance staff.
  8. Collaborate with management, technical teams, and engineering groups as needed to ensure a quality software release.
  9. Collaborate with engineers to resolve outstanding bugs.
  10. Participate in production deployments (sometimes after hours or off-peak hours) to provide QA support



  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related area or equivalent experience.
  2. Certifications from recognized testing associations are a plus.


  1. 5+ years of experience in a Testing/Quality Assurance/Performance Tuning/High Availability role.
  2. Experience on enterprise systems in a high demand environment preferred.
  3. Proven experience as a software developer, network engineer, database administrator, or telecommunications engineer.
  4. Software development lifecycle testing experience. (Experience with Agile/Scrum is a plus.)
  5. Experience with test automation platforms and methodologies.
  6. Experience with performance and/or security testing.
  7. Experience with Linux/Unix, shell scripting, web applications, java and Oracle a plus.
  8. Experience analyzing and debugging hardware, software, and network systems.


  1. Good working knowledge of software development lifecycle, deployment strategies, automation testing, high performance and high availability environments.
  2. Self-directed and highly motivated.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  4. Strong multi-tasking, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  5. Knowledge in the areas of payment processing, PCI compliance, privacy and security best practices preferred.
  6. Solid knowledge of SQL and scripting.
  7. Ability to work with other technical and non-technical staff and layers of management.
  8. Knowledge of test defect management tracking tool.
